x360Key Interview with ModControl.com
Posted by XanTium | May 8 23:46 EST | News Category: Xbox360

The guys over at ModControl.com made an interview with the x360Key team behind the the upcoming ODD Emulator Device:
Quote

Q: Who is x360Key?
A: TA, one of the founders and maindeveloper of the WODE (wii optical drive emulator) Modchip quit his work on the WODE Project last year to be a part of the legendary Wiikey team and create a new project called x360key, an Xbox 360 drive emulator which allows you to load legal backups from an usb device.

Q: x360Key Drive Emulation?
A: x360key is 2nd generation Optical Drive emulation tech with a brand new Emulation Engine (x360 is very different to Wii, from the hardware interface to the drive commands).
We took all the experience from designing Wode and started again from the ground up to bring you the 2nd generation of ODD emulation technology on the xbox 360 console.

Q: Why you add the DVDKey Extraction Method from Maximus?
A: Some commands the console sends, and reponses from the drive are encrypted, we need the key to be able to communicate with the console. Automatic DVD Key extraction will be added later thx to the deal with Maximus to use their key extraction methods.
In x360key software v1.00 you have to add the dvdkey manually into a txt file on the sd card.

Q: Why will Xbox 360 slim drive support will be added later?
A: There are additional checks on the drive firmware. We need more time to do that properly, of course it works, but we want to give you a perfect solution, so we have to do some more work to make sure everything is perfect.

Q: Why not all games running?
A: The emulation code for 1.00 is complete now and we are testing like crazy for a release at the end of June. AP25 is working and we expect xgd3 will be working in V1.00 to - but that still needs testing. All tested games are working perfectly (including games with AP25), but not all released games have been tested by us, this is the reason why we state "most xbox 360 and xbox 1 games supported", when we have tested all of them (and this may take a while) then we will let you know that x360key is 100% compatible.
NOTE: Only supported xbox 1 games a working due to the xbox 360 emulation routine for xbox 1 games, so where is no possiblity to let all Xbox 1 games work.

The guys at Wiikey screwed me over with the drivekeys. While my customers were flocking away to other resellers. i had to hold on to my 'New Super Mario brothers' incapable drivekeys. I asked them to release the firmware but they lagged and killed my sales. For some reason they could implement the BCA data for the new chips from factory but didn't have update for old chips in circulation. They hella messed me up. then finally after about 8 months or 10 months they released the dkprog with the update.

If they are going to be that shady with this product, i dont want any part of it. I'll buy the Xode instead.

I can understand your opinion. The drivekey update and the Wikey Fusion release was a pain in the ass!

X360key is a very promising product! But he future functions needs updates. Let's hope pegaxy ( wiikey ) release x360key when promised and has the functions as advertised.

p.s. Xode Jukebox is a product anounced from team Wode Jukebox (Neocall), but they have proofed in the past that anouncement doesn't mean that they will release the product! And now the anouncement has been removed from their site.

Just got this in an email...

Oh and it's not often we do this at MrModchips but stay away from the x360key as you will be very disappointed by it. Wait for something so much better in operation and build quality which hasn't been fully announced yet wink.gif
Don't say we didn't warn you & this is all we will say on the matter!

from c4e himself: "x360key:something better will be out around the same time "

So I guess that email seems legit. I wonder what will be coming out and from what source?

So one of the main wode developers did quit his job and joined the wiikey team! I wonder if that's the main reason behind the wode updates delay.....?!

wow, very sneaky. Their mudslinging lies arent getting very good results in public, so now they just send emails to people who they've already sunk their claws into? I love how its always, " don't buy this! We gonna buy it and copy it once its out. Then you can buy our copy!." This is the kind of stuff that makes people not want to develop. It's gonna suck when theres nothing left to copy, huh?

One thing I want to know about this drive emulators is how easy would it be to use one on multiple xbox machines? I'm guessing it must have some sort of sata adapter cable to plug inbetween the board and drive and you then plug the x360key into that? So you would only need more than one of these adapters?
Incase you want to know I have a PAL and NTSC xbox and may want to switch this between the two.

Just buy 2x sata extension cables. leave the entension's female ends outside of the xbox's on both consoles. Then you can just switch it between the consoles. The only problem is how the 360key is getting power. If it is powered from the dvd power cable, then that is simple too, just buy 2x long dvd power cables (ebay item 150604181459) and leave them outside the xbox's too
