Where did I mention the key being sent to the xbox?  Device rips disc with encrypted payload, sends it to xbox.  No need for any keys for the device.  As I said, it's pointless to speculate how it's done, there are plenty of ways it can be implemented.

Encryption is only important if you have any need to understand what the data is...  If you're just an intermediary device all you need to do is send through the encrypted data unless you have a need to process it.  Nowhere on the site does it even mention whether you can use existing rips of disc's, or you need to do your whole collection with the device.  The device is simply a mountpoint switch, it doesn't really need to know any of the information its sending if it gets the other components of communication correct.

If you look at this video you'll see: Xbox 360->Dev Unit->USB Hub->USB Drive and Laptop. No DVD drive in sight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE_0B5TObx0

Guys

Drivekey
Wiikey 1, 2 and fusion
ps3key
x306key are

all the same team
wode juke box is a different team.

x360key.com registered on Jan 28 2011.  Looks like the other key websites are registered through the same private registrar.  All the website "key" website also seem to have the same template/theme look, including x360key.com.

Just an observation.

Why do people use WODE for Wii? When you can do the same for free via backup loaders and any USB drive?

Maybe they copied the key from the drive for the purpose of the dev kit. The retail version needing no drive seems a bit far reached. Especially with dash updates looking for the drive.

No solid info on live yet. I thought by now that everyone has 1 consoles, 1 offline and 1 online? Online not modding? hehe.

Here is a clip of how the WODE works, the x360key will probably work in the same way.

As a WODE owner, I'll chime in.

It was for the shear simplicity. My wife uses the Wii, and rarely at that. So I don't stay up to speed on all the latest Wii news like I do with the other consoles. I don't want to sit around every couple of months spending time researching the latest patches, hacks, methods, or what not.

If I need an update for the Wii/WODE, I just go to the site, download the update, and flash the WODE.

For me it was money well spent.

Nintendo are fairly lazy with updates, so they kind of made it easy with softmods. But when there are updatesits a pain in the ass for softmodders...
WODE users just update

Also GameCube support
Wifi loading...
NTFS support, Multiple HDDs...

Either way its a great start and a long time coming.

By the looks of the prototype in the vid it looks like the xbox is set to auto-launch games so if it isnt then surely youd get the normal options of installing to the HDD and the 360key would stream the data anyway?

I set my mate up with a WODE and its nothing but perfect so if its anywhere near that standard it should be a great product.

With regards to the protection lark, if it does go as far as perfectly (I use that loosely) emulating the drive then really all the usually safeguards we use to take a flashed box online should stand.

With it being easily updateable, as the WODE was, then say if a new challenge table arrives then it should just be a matter of them packaging it up, us downloading it, stick it on a SD card and updating the 360key.

I know theres a hell of a lot more to it technically which I wont even pretend to try to understand but all in all I think we are on to good thing especially where Ive read that some think MS have thrown everything theyve got into these new protections and updates.

Anyway, will be following the progress and hopefully be able to get my hands on a couple when its finally released, either way itll be great for those of us who dont have the means of flashing their drives or only use offlines.

Be interesting to hear c4 and cos views on it.

Seems like it would be something easy for MS to patch though.

My thoughts exactly when I saw this yesterday.

Hey Guys,

In regards to the transfer speed, in its proto stage without any optimisation it boots games faster than DISC and FMV is flawless.
That info is directly from the team.

The product has a lot more to offer (with planned update) then what is listed.
Its a little linux box attached to your drive, so updating it is very easy.

Yeah, I remember your updates from teh team when PSJB came out.
You were making posts the second any new info got leaked like you got it right from teh team.
Plus, the million pre-orders you took for it, then cancelled, and then gave everyone a hard time getting a full refund.
You got fined, and irresponsibly tried passing it off on your loyal customers who pre-ordered from you.
NICE!
All you care about is $ like M$.
Gimme a break with your exclusive info.  pop.gif
Hopefully, we will soon hear something new that isn't fabricated by someone who's only concern is raking in the $, and making pre-orders.

No hard time, everyone was refunded within 2~3 weeks.

We went to court with Sony without finacial support from anyone but ourselves, so I am not sure what you are trying to say here.

I think it would be cool if they added more then just USB support.  Image having a SSD to load from.

i think an ssd wouldn't really help you out for speed.

this thing can only go as fast as usb 2.0, i don't know how the speed is vs ssd vs hdd, but i would guess usb 2.0 is not faster than a traditional hdd.

if i am right, then ssd would be a total waste of money for this setup.

also if you want it to be stealthed, it would probably have to load at the same speed as a dvd-r which is 16mbs i believe vs usb 2.0 of 60mbs, so again, ssd would be a waste of money.

lol 60MB/s, not a chance. Try it out if you dont believe me a large single file will go through at 28+/- 5 MB/s small files will crawl ~<15MB/s

but fair enough on the DVD data transfer, I'm amazed its that low

Because obviously, USB is an exclusive technology of 2.5" HDDs right?

Did you even read the sentence you quoted? If they "added more than just USB support" the only other thing that could be is SATA. An SSD could easily take advantage of a SATA connection, but the creators likely chose USB for ease of use. Certainly would've been nice to have the option to connect via eSATA/SATA, but whatever, load speeds this generation aren't anywhere near PS1 load times so it's not really a big deal. And if you're going to play on Live you'll still have to wait for everyone else to load anyway.
