price will be the deciding factor for me. Defiantly want but not sure how much at what price.
Dumping my entire library (easily 200+) onto 1 HD is extremely appealing. I've already got my set top homebrew on my PS3 so I could give a fuck about that...not having to change discs however, sign me up biggrin.gif

MS will probably ditch the ability to copy DVD data to HDD because of this, they tried that before dont forget.

I don't think it matters. This do-hickey emulates the disc and all the verification processes. Install to HDD feature wouldn't make a difference.

I can't wait to see where this leads to. pop.gif

Because too many people believe that this does make jtags and drive flashes obsolete I tried to make a comparison between the x360key, ixtreme lt+ and jtag hack:
http://bit.ly/hpBKrj (Link to Google Docs PDF)

very Nice comparison Chart smile.gif
always makes thing appear much clearer when set out like that smile.gif

Two things i see that need adjusting thou,
 - Game modding, can be done via just drive flash on some games (like COD:WAW) etc
 - and the dash version you stat on the xbox slim support,
is 2.0.8495, were im pretty sure its suppose to be 2.0.7371

Also another point which could be stated of which the jtag rules supreme
is the fact you do all the game select on the 360 itself, but of course drive flash you need to swop the disc, and the new key, you would i presume select the game on the actualy device (not on the TV/360)

So whats the exploit, screw the gadget. If it boots a custom Linux then hey lets just reverse engineer PS3JB style.
Theres no way they made a "gadget" to do this, there has to be a hole driving it????

they still havent said whether the case has to be opened or not. I would like some instructions. Please. I would assume the 'black box' has a sata connector. Regardless of whther you are actually loading games from the ODD or not, there still has to be some sort of signal? Right? even if it's a dummy signal. So, you would have to connect something to the sata port or where the ODD usually connects to. but a proxy via the x360key module? This is intriguing. I wonder how much it will be.

edit: nvm i just read the whole article. It sits between the sata bus and the mother board.

Only concern I have is the bandwidth provided between the media stored on your HDD and the X360key

i.e. USB2.0 on a good day hits ~30MB/s but I have no doubt that the DVD drive reads much fast than that.

unless the x360 key has a flash buffer onboard to load the image onto

I guess you can install the game to HDD

what does every one else think?

Most HDDs are going to be limited by USB2.0 since it caps at 60MBps.

The DVD drive's load speeds are at a pathetic 16MBps. Though there's a good chance the X360key might limit the read speed so as not to set off any flags. I'm sure MS would be raising some eyebrows if a ton of 360s suddenly started loading games faster than physically possible from a normal DVD drive.

Optionally, they could allow the speed limiter to be removed for people on offline/banned consoles.

Hope they keep the firmware of it open so it can be patched if needed if they happen to get shut down.

I wonder how the supported games list looks for today... and how it works in practice because the available YT video gives just a small glimpse of the things yet to come.

Yes you have to open the case, you got to connect to the SATA port the DVD drive connects to.

Thanks very much for the input I fixed the first two points (the second point wasn't actually wrong, i stated pre-8495. But i made it clearer by writing 7371 and earlier). I will also try to point out the disk swapping in the evening. (Have some work to do in the meantime.. sad.gif)

As someone who has no hopes of JTAG this sounds interesting.

It would be great if they also add the ability to rip games easily without dissembling the console.

That said, price is of concern to me, if its too expensive I'll just stick to cheap discs.
