You probably have to dump the key first since the traffic is encrypted with the same key.

Or just pass through that data.  It's an intermediary device, the checks are more than likely done on the dvd drive and the device sends it back to the xbox sata port.  There may not even be a need to decrypt the data.  In saying that there are probably a whole lot of different ways this device could operate so it may be a pointless exercise speculating on how it may operate at this point.

What I'm interested to know is whether it can only read isos or an entire folder structure like a jtag 360, it'd would be awesome if it can do both and can emulate the security checks on the fly for games that aren't stored as an iso.

It also looks a bit optimistic having a wifi dongle to play games via smb or nfs, I'm not sure the throughput would be reliable enough to play a game seamlessly.

that is too confusing?

dvd encrypts the data threw DVD KEY ----> using same key xbox decrypts it with the SAME KEY on KV.bin

if one value on key wrong, decryption is invalid and xbox wont read the data properly.

the key is never sent threw the SATA cable EVER.

What a invention!!!!!!!!!!  I have a DVD less xbox360. It boots perfectly. I burned the DVD PCB board while trying to retrieve the key. Now I can play games on that.

Hope to see this working soon...........

Where did I mention the key being sent to the xbox?  Device rips disc with encrypted payload, sends it to xbox.  No need for any keys for the device.  As I said, it's pointless to speculate how it's done, there are plenty of ways it can be implemented.

Encryption is only important if you have any need to understand what the data is...  If you're just an intermediary device all you need to do is send through the encrypted data unless you have a need to process it.  Nowhere on the site does it even mention whether you can use existing rips of disc's, or you need to do your whole collection with the device.  The device is simply a mountpoint switch, it doesn't really need to know any of the information its sending if it gets the other components of communication correct.

This is very interesting to see and I hope it works out.  My guess is that it will end up alot like the PS3 scene when the first 'dongle' the PSJailbreak came out and was $160.  A few weeks later, the technology was copied and the price came way down to $40 odd dollars and eventually $15 (yes, I realize they are now worthless).  Someone is going to reverse engineer this and knock it off...

This product looks amazing!

However I am sure M$ can patch the dash and block it, sooner or later. And the cat and mouse battle starts over and over again with both sides launching new patches... For sure

How predictable, they got the idea from a post here a while back... We were going to look into it also a while back (we were thinking of doing a PC ODD emu) Just holding-out untill the slim FW became more clear in terms of what direction they're taking..

QUOTE(BoNg420 @ Apr 26 2011, 08:19 AM) *

Seems like it would be something easy for MS to patch though.

Perhaps, but they can just make a FW update for the EMU every time they do (far more flexible than an MTK flash chip :-)
QUOTE(dragoscojan @ Apr 26 2011, 08:26 AM) *

no chance for homebrew.
also

so how many really?

and since the beta 2.0.13141 dash can flash the dvd drives,i think this device can be easily made useless with a dashboard update.

i think it will only be succesful if it has a low price point, and if xgd3 games are impossible to burn to a regular dvd+r dl.otherwise drive flashing is still a better option (of course, nothing beats jtag's).

Not untill another game-save back door comes-out...

The main reason we hadn't started-in on this, is that now that this is out: we'll almost certainly see a new console (Xbox 4?) soon. Whatever M$ do now, they won't be able to stop this device easily. I also predict someone with the knowlege, will release a PC version of this for all (and/or an adapter for PC that makes it easier to run an Xbox Game Jukebox in windows) The weakness in this blackbox solution is how it changes/selects games

No, I think that  you still need to know your dvd key. I did manage to get the key out of a burned dvd board.

Ever herd of RC4. The Key is still needed to Decrypt the data and Encrypt it.
