12 volt mod externalize the dvd drive then add a fan on the gpu. Hybrid x-clamp. Heatsinks on ram chips.

Add on the fan shroud mod. Couple that with the 12V fan mod, you'll be pulling air across the whole heatsink, keeping the GPU/CPU cool prolonging the life of the console.

On top of the extra cooling/fan mods. The best way to prevent an RROD is a reball. They're a bit pricey though, so I'd look in to a fan mod as they're way cheaper.

throwing it out tomorrow

Before you just throw it away....could you just send it to me?...I could use it for parts since you just gonna throw it away like that.I may could use it man.. smile.gif

The best thing to do to prevent RROD is to limit your game playing to a certain amount of time.(I play about 2-3 hours...but 4 hours should be the max...anything over 4 is RROD ahead )..Never leave your console on at all...never fall asleep with it on...always unplug the power from the wall when your not playing..never leave a game disc inside the system when turning it off..never plug in the hard drive with it on...Replace your thermal paste at least twice a year and have your motherboard cleaned professionally in some ultra sonic cleaner. You gotta take care of these systems these days...the xbox360 hates to be neglected...it wants loving care too.also when you are playing have a desk fan placed right in front of the system(I have one myself)...never set your system on a complete solid surface...it has vent holes on both sides so placing something underneath(like a card board box that would fit perfect  between the two vents with holes on the side would help the hot air to escape well. and create a way for air flow to flow underneath the system...now it can breathe...lol....you could even install the Hybrid fix to prevent the RROD....it may last and life time then if your did all the recommendations i posted above....Just dont play it for long long hours....have you another system to play until it cools off or something(I still play my PS2 or dreamcast or Original xbox they will never RROD..lol..)...also leave your desk fan on when you turn it off...Its gets real dam hot when you turn it off and the fan stops blowing...i believe this is how RROD all starts...they should have made the fan stay on longer in my opinion after powering off.....because without them fans in action that GPU heat sink rises in temp....

I have had my 360 for almost two years and its still going hard...why?...because i take care of mines....I just change the thermal paste even when it running fine an dandy..I want to keep that heat transferring rate like its suppose to be......Game Systems are not like they use to be...They want respect now laugh.gif

Take Care of your 360 man...and i promise it will take care of your gaming needs...

reballing fixes rrod but does not prevent xboxes from rrod. without proper GPU heat dissipation, no matter what you do, the Xbox will rrod sooner or later.

I don't see why it wouldn't prevent as well as cure, because an RROD such as a 0102 is a cold solder joint. A reball is completely taking off the gpu/cpu, and using different (Leaded solder as opposed to Microsoft's lead free) solder for the solder balls that connect the gpu/cpu to the board.  If you used better solder than MS (IE leaded 60/40), there's really no reason why it shouldn't prevent an RROD just as much as a cooling mod would.

Nonsense, replacing good paste every 6 months is CRAZY - LOL.

Replace original paste once, keep dust off the heatsinks, make sure board is not being flexed and apply cooling fixes and the 360 will survive a decade of heavy use.

the excessive heat from GPU caused the motherboard warp, then the heat cycle finally breaks the solder balls.  this is the main cause.

Which is why I said on top of a fan mod tongue.gif. The melting point of lead free solder is 217, while 60/40 is significantly higher.

Exactly. The CPU can survive running 80C but not the GPU. Even 60-65C is a danger zone. For long lasting 360 modify the shroud/airflow so the GPU & EDRAM run in the 40-45C range.

I've pretty much completely stopped Fan voltage mods because I realized if I modify the shroud just right I can force more airflow through the GPU by partially blocking the GPU Heatsink.

So much miss information in here.

Playing 3-4 hours max wont do anything since it will reach its max temp with in 10mins of playing anything, keeping your xbox on 24/7 would make it last longer since the cold solder joints happen in the cooling phase (when you turn it off) if its never turned off your board would never warp and youd never get cold solder joints.

Re-balling will prevent rrod if its done the correct way and the solder balls are replaced not just the heat gun method. But its better to just re-ball after its rrod. And its nearly not worth it anymore since you can pick up new phat consoles for $150 now so its only real use if you want to keep your jtag going.

Iv found the best way to get xbox to last is to do the xclamp mod straight away with the fan shroud mod.
And leaving the screws out that hold the motherboard down. And also to quit to dash for 5mins before turning it off so that it cools down a little bit beforehand so less warpage happens.
