Advantage Of Internal Over External Hd? Pls Help

Hi

Ive been having problems with the 3.5 motherboard hard drive mod, intermitant red rings, 100 percent fan speeds etc.

Then it got me thinking what exactly is the advantage of an internal drive. Im using freestyle 2 dash on jtag. Can i put xbla games and dlc on the external or do I have to use internal. If i can use the external i don't see any advantage at all of the internal....is this correct.
