This HDD is a modded drive. That mean's is a case from MS with a modded hard drive flashed with hddhckr utility. If the seller says it is genuine product then you should ask total refund and report him for fake products.
Now, concerning your issue, My guess is that the hard drive is not modded properly and you should repeat the steps modding the HDD again, in order to get it fixed.

EDIT: The Magnetic Data Technologies is refurbishing branded HDDs and resell them to non-EU countries and neither in USA .

In regards to just buying a hard drive and using HddHackr, it is rather easy and cheap to do it that way.

Hddhackr will only work with the following Western Digital Drives:
- WD Scorpio Series BEVS/BEAS
- WD Scorpio Blue Series BEVS/BEVT/BPVT
- WD Scorpio Black Series BEKT/BJKT
- WD VelociRaptor Series
- WD AV-25 Series BUDT

Those are the compatible drives, I ended up grabbing a 120GB WD BEVT for $28 and had it ready to go in 5 minutes.

That's what I thought.... why on earth would someone try and flash some MDT 250GB hardrive with hddhackr when only the specified drives that work with the utility are all Western Digital?

I still want the case though.... but I'm $75 out of pocket... and I don't wanna get a refund on the drive purely because I score another case! argh! xD

Any possibility I can salvage that MDT drive and flash it for window's and sell it on ebay? and then just use part of what I get for the drive and get a Western Digital?

hmmmmm, ok.

So if it is a refurbished Western Digital and presuming it's impossible to find out if it's originally a model that works with hddhackr, then all I can do is just do some googling, find a tutorial for re-flashing the drive and see if the drive works after that?

You'd be better off getting a full refund, i bought a 250gb drive from hong kong off ebay for $40 put it straight on and it worked fine.

You can make them work as say an "External Drive" for windows. have to use Xport 360 or Xplorer 360 delete the partitions and format it in my computer i think....? maybe someone else should confirm that also

I'd like to experiment though and see if I can salvage the drive and see if it works, as I have already shown in the pictures, the tabs are already broken, so I can't really see any harm in trying to re-flash the drive before sending it off.  I don't know how you can find out what type of Western Digital Drive it originally was before being refurbished by MDT, but I guess the only way to find out is if it will re-flash or not I guess.  I'd just need to be careful that if in the case that it won't re-flash the E68 code will still display, being a competition go karter, I can afford to take the risk and loose $75, and besides, I get a free chrome case with it!

Indeed MDT, since I remember, was doing rebranding of refurbished Maxtors (in old days) and now are mostly DOA Western Digitals that were refurbished, rebranded and sold back to retail (but without genuine FCC and CE certicifactions).
My point is that the drive might be functional indeed and you should try to re-flash it before sending it back, but it is not NEW! So the ebay post was missleading, in my opinion, since we are talking about refusbished product.
Also the case is not the original one but a chinese made copy, but that is not a problem really. Have in mind that there are people that complained that the case's hdd socket was the cause of a malfunctioning.
So, if you succesfully do the flashing and still the HDD is not recognised by the console, it might be the case's fault.
The tutorial that you have found is one of the best available on the internet. Good luck.

Alright, I've quickly taken apart the 20GB hardrive case to check and see if it's actually the connector on the chinese casing, and the hardrive is still spitting out the E68 code, so I guess it's back to Plan B and try and re-flash the drive before conceding to Plan C and putting the drive back together and sending it back so that the seller will never know I went to such lengths of experimentation!

I'm pretty much ready to go in terms of flashing the drive, all I need to know is if I need to do anything first before following the link I posted before.

Also, I don't have a USB pen stick to use as a bootable disk, but I've got a working floppy disk drive and plenty of blank floppy disks, I'll do some googling to find out how to create a bootable floppy disk for hddhackr first before going any further.

i have cleared up error 68 before by including a jumper..google/search here I got the idea from a thread here on xbox scene..additionally not sure why but some original hd's for 360's don't need one/include one but some do so worth a try...not sure if the model/revision of the 360 makes a difference but I suppose it is possible which may explain why seller reports it worked (jtagged console mayhaps?)  

Also be very careful with connecting these drives to pc's in windows...creates false data screws up offsets there is a good thread about this at xbox hacker.....

Ok, I'm going for the attempted re-flash, and so far I'm failing misserably!

The problem is trying to create a bootable disk, I haven't go any USB Sticks nor do I have any "working" floppy disk drives, so I'm trying to create a bootable CD.

I really need a bit of Newbie guidance with this bit at the moment, so far my googling is just coming back with crap on how to create a bootable instalation CD for Windows XP.

All I know is that to create a bootable CD I need to use a .img file (I think), make that bootable and then add the HDD Hacker app, along with the 250GB security sector file.

I've quickly changed the BIOS order so it will boot from the DVD drive, and checked for any hidden settings that will prevent me from getting the app running within the bios.  But when the Bios goes to boot the DVD drive first, the screen comes up with "Disk I/O error", and after a quick google the only logical reason that error would come up would be because I failed misserably at creating a bootable CD.....

I use Windows XP Home Edition SP3, I think.... should be SP3 like every other person here...

Ok, I've progressed a tad further, but I'm stuck again...

I think I've managed to burn the disk properly, and I'm now at that part where you can type the command "hddhackr", but I'm getting a message "bad command or file name" thrown back at me.

I'll check out the bios again to see if I've missed something, but I think I burned the disk correctly this time.

I burned an iso image using MagicISO, using a bootable MSDOSXP file, I'm not sure if I should have been using a different XP bootable file or not, but on allbootdisks.com there is a choice of 6 disks.... anyway once I got the bootable disk happening I just threw in the hddhackr.exe file, the readme and the security sector file, making sure that I renamed the file as said in the tutorial.

Now, New problem, I am now getting the following error: "no ata identify possible"

So basically hddhackr can't find the MTD Hardrive, so I'm not sure how I should go about this now, I did find this very old thread here: http://forums.xbox-s...hp/t688598.html but I'm not keen on burning all different kinds of CD's to find out if I can get passed this step or not.

Thoughts?

EDIT: "no ata identify POSSIBLE"
