Hi,
Just had a bit of an idea, didn't see it anywhere else, which probably means it's stoopid but here we go.
The RROD, as far as I can see, seems to be coming when the xbox GPU solder melts and the GPU becomes loose. Now supposing the GPU is not necessary for the continued operation of the rest of the console, then JTAGing and installing linux would still be possible, right? The RROD xboxes are going for humble money on the ebay, around £20 the last time I looked. So, for £200 you'd be able to build a 30 core cluster, or 150 cores for £1000. Which is quite cheap all things considered, and would allow me to, potentially, run some research code on a home cluster with some serious processing power. As clusters have no use for individual video outputs the lack of GPU would be of no consequence, just make sure the whole thing is controlled by a pc with video output.
So what is the sanity of this scheme?
