Best Course Of Action, Dying Laser
« on: January 12, 2011, 06:09:00 PM »

I have a 360 running with stock firmware, the drive inside is a Samsung ms25,, warranty is voided. To play any game it takes multiple disc eject's and rebooting in order to finally read the game and play it. I have concluded that the laser must be bad after cleaning it and it performing slightly better than before, but still being a pain to play games. I want to keep this xbox for online play, what is the best course of action for me to take?

You may be better off buying a new laser and installing it otherwise you'll have to buy the exact drive and swap the PCB board over to that one as DVD drives have a key and they will not run on your box if it doesnt have the exact key. the key is stored on the PCB so you just swap it over, or you will have to flash the new drive with the firmware thats on your old one with the key.

A pot tweak is always possible, not as permanent but free.
