Does this means that to get all slim drives flashed we're going to need a USBpro or just with a SATA car we can get it done?

Judging by their flow chart, this is ment solely to make flashing the drives eaiser/safer. If it was required to flash the drives, then you would think that they would have found a way around the MRA hack by software means.

i would doubt they are going to give up all the technical details but I would expect this to be a custom sata controller they have created, so if its possible to do something via the sata interface this will no doubt support the commands, and I would hope be updateable to support custom commands if needed or have a blind forward / raw mode so jf can pass anynew commands to it.

they can never predict the future so if new drives are not beaten or even have exploits found they cant really hold back, but if we assume the above then there is no reason not to release, as its just a matter of tiding up after they learn how to do it.

i have only every failed to do 1 79fk drive with my cheapo usb sata and a via card, but there has been plenty of messing arround so I can see why this is appealing but for most people here who have already got over the hurdle and done their drive this is not an essencial purchase. The Maximus lizzard looks more interesting to me, but neither enough to make me let the moths out my wallet wink.gif

Blah blah blah, Why else would the liteon slim xtreme FW be delayed so much . Im sure it will be out when these usb thingies are out otherwise who would buy them .Blah blah blah

Did it ever ccur to you, that MS might have put a little more security into the slims than in the fat models?

That the firmware might need alot more time and thought to meet all requirements to avoid all detection methods?

The more kiddies $#!ts the thread, the more important stuff gets lost in the mess.
Have you ever heard about slim to be easily detectable cause of new cmds to check codearea and dram, on and off Live?

I would get this just to save the headache I have when trying to dump and flash hitachi drives (fat). My VIA6421 PCI card and PCMCIA card both take repeated retries to get it to work as well as using a USB2SATA converter.

I'm definitely purchasing this - full no-solder support for read/write of all slim revs so far (excluding Hitachi, of course).

I'm kinda amazed that they don't have a "no solder/cut" method for the old liteons, tho. I would think since this has the extra hardware necessary to write the slim drives, they could've found a way to read old liteons w/o cuts.... oh, well... still worth it, imho.

Yeah me too...the only reason I would consider this is if it bypassed the MRA hack...Ive had no probelms doing current drives with my connectivity kit.

Looks like it's the way to go on the newer slim 360's. But for the older ones I don't see the advantage especially if you already have a connectivity kit/probe.

Perhaps your missing the point, the whole idea is for ease of use.  Example fred buys a 360, thinks i know I'll flash it then thinks oh bollocks i dont have a pcmcia for my laptop, I'll try the PC "oh no the PC doesnt have any sata or wrong sata"

Do you get it?

how the hell do we need the mra probe ect on some of the older fat drives, but all the new slim drives so far besides the hitachi doesnt require any of this. is microsoft going backwards on security or what.

i think your missing the point it may remove need for sata but it still needs a power source the cheaper kits needs a person to own a ck3 kit and  the more expensive one will have ck3 built in but molex power is still needed so still no use for laptop.

this is the stuff i mentioned in my post team x has done this all wrong.

Lisard360 has the same issue and needs external molex power to power the dvd drive. I think it is just a design issue. If they include the power supply in the box it will be much bigger product + thermal issues.
