Ts-h943 Drive Issues
« on: December 27, 2010, 09:48:00 PM »

Hello all. I did a "no video" fix on an xbox this evening. When I got it running I found that the drive was not ejecting the way it should. I popped the drive open to see what was going on. I found with the casing off of the drive that the drive was ejecting without pushing the eject button. On top of this problem the motor is not spinning and the laser is not moving or lighting up at all. If I try to put a disc in it closes and the laser deal pops up under it, but it makes no noise and the laser never lights. After a second or so it ejects again. When I turn the xbox off, the drive ejects and stays that way.

I tried another drive in the console to make sure it wasnt cable related. The drive I put in fired up fine and read a dvd. I dont have a replacement TS-H943 on hand, so I cant pop the drive board into another drive to see if that fixes the problem. Is it likely a bad laser and or motor? And if thats the case, what is the deal with the ejecting? Ive had lots of them with bad lasers, but this is the first one I have had that ejects for no reason and wants to be open when its turned off... they always close when you power them down.

Any advice out there?
