how do i format an unformat-able 120 gig ms elite hdd pack?
i took it out the casing; made a backup of the hddss.bin; the ss appears to be correct. it gives me drive information etc. so it is not empty.
i winhex-ed the drive; removed the nhpa via mhdd.exe (there is tutorial around for this). i did this, because the drive first showed up as an 111 gig ntfs partition and wasn't recognized at all by the xbox. the xbox would just hang at startup with the hdd connected (at the xbox 360 logo).
finally i got it to boot into the dashboard; it showed as unformatted. i tried to format it a couple of times; used 2 xbox-es for that. one jtag, on normal not banned/flashed. i also tried 2 connector cable; i have 2 different ms cases that were taken apart (1 * 20 gig + 1 * 120 gig). both cases are/appear to be original; there are original ms hdd's inside (FJ and Hit.)
neither xbox / cable combinations would let me format the 120 gig drive. on one xbox (jtag-kinect freeboot) it takes a lot longer to boot into the dashboard with the hdd connected. on the non-modded (2.9199 dash) it boots faster.
the 120 gig drive itself appears to be fine; when it showed up as a 111 gig ntfs partition i could use it normally. i believe the SS is also fine; or else the xbox would not recognize it as a MS unformatted hdd.
