The new controller with a 'transforming' D-Pad has now been confirmed by Microsoft:
Quote

We've just made the Xbox 360 Wireless controller even better with a brand new version that includes a transforming D-pad.  The engineers have come up with an ingenious solution with a d-pad that can go from a plus to a disc with the twist of the wrist.

In addition to the new d-pad, the matte silver controller also features concave analog sticks and gray A,B,X,Y buttons for added style.
The controller will only be available with the new Play & Charge Kit that will launch on November 9th for US $64.99.

haven't they missed the point completely, the problem is that the d-pad isn't that responsive not that its a disk shape.

I guess we need to try it out first.

I will give it a shot.

I guess my halo Reach custom controllers are going to be the same controllers I have now with a REACH case on them.

I Would like to see if the Dpad is just changed but still fits into another controller.  If so the chinese replicas for the Dpad will beout shortly and everyone can convert their exisiting controller into one with the new D-pad.

No I suspect they haven't. I suspect it won't "float" the way it does in the disc form factor. However, I also don't think it will be identical in feel to the old perfect xbox controller S. Hopefully it will be even better than the S controller.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/love.gif)

Does seem a little over engineered, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. After all this time and complaints, surely they wont fuck it up again?

they are not interested in if they get it or not.

they are only thinking>>>
um, what can we do to make more money on something that has a saturated market?
i know lets change the controller again so that everyone will want to run out and buy a new one.
oh and lets raise the price on them just for a little extra profit (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

They didn't raise the price.  They are just forcing a play and charge bundle on you for the new controller which has always been $64.99

I would assume that eventually these will make their way into system bundles?

I guess I find it funny that they said they patented it.  Especially considering that no one else has a disc shaped d-pad (ps3, wii).  I guess it's to stop 3rd party (Datel) from copying it... I guess.  Why not just make it raised permanently like everyone else?

Also weird... this video has nothing coming out of the left audio channel?  Had only my left earbud headphones on and didn't hear anything.  Thought there was something wrong at first with my headphones and then noticed it was mono.  Go figure and wondered if anyone else noticed that.

Ms needs to take their head out of their ass, this is five yeahs too late and it should have had been included with the new 360s with regular colors buttons at least. I been and ms fan since the original xbox but ms it just not loving back (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif) . I guess is time for a change!

You sir, are correct! I bought the new 360, and overall it's a cool system, but I did have an elite before that one, that technically did the same thing except for HD space. There was really no bonus to buying it, except that it was new. If the controllers would have come with the system, that would have been an added benefit... seeing as MS does not like adding benefits. I wont be getting this, nor Halo Reach.

So we do a fireball in sf2 and it goes up then a hurricane kick and it goes down. How is this a better design?

I didn't know that there was a problem with the dpad. But I may buy a pair since both of mine have gunk stuck in them and it would be handy to have the charge kit.

I guess I have heard others on the internets complaining before about the dpad but me and my group of friends with 360's have never had any problems with them. I guess some of us just got 'the good ones'. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) Or maybe other just like to complain, I really don't know.

Looks like clearance issues with the D-pad could still be possible. I've had more than one controller not be so responsive on the left or right due to hitting the edges around the D-Pad disk.
