More Pictures of a New Xbox 360 Dissection

Today UPS dropped off my Xbox 360 Slim (codename Valhalla) and I did exactly what you'd expect me to: run power numbers on it and take the whole thing apart. I've posted pics of the system compared to the old Jasper Xbox 360 here and a gallery of my dissection of the system here.

Many More Pictures: anandtech.com[1] and anandtech.com[2]

That'll be because it's the exact same board (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Maybe next time there's a leaked board there won't be as many doubters...lol, who am I kidding!

MUCH better board design IMHO. Fan placed over the CPU/GPU heatsink is what they should have done beforehand. I'm almost tempted to get one of these myself and sell my XBL Falcon (and I don't think I'll be alone).

ill be picking one up for my living room as a new live box, hopefully an exploit will be found for these eventually though id imagine Microsoft have spent a lot of time and money preventing any sort of back doors, after all they done a pretty good job with the mark 1!

Thanks for the pictures. I knew that guy going around saying that this new Xbox didn't have the Valhalla motherboard in it was crazy  tongue.gif

I'm surprised that Microsoft didn't learn from past mistakes and get rid of the x-clamps entirely.

The problem was never the XClamps - it was a combination of poor BGA solder, poor reflow, and insufficient ventilation. All the Xclamp does is hold the heatsink in place while you remove the motherboard. The REAL work is done by the four screws that ensures there's enough pressure being applied to ensure good heat dissipation.

Anyone know how big the fan is?

80? 92? or even 120?

Would be great to switch it with Noctua. The old box didn't offer much switching options.

I'm swapping me Jasper for one next week - although I still (and I think I'm in a minority) like the aesthetics of the old 360 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
