Pictures of the New 360 Internals: DVD-Drive, Motherboard, HeatSink, Fan, WiFi Addon Board, ...
Posted by XanTium | June 17 18:52 EST | News Category: Xbox360

The New 360 has been opened up by the guys at solomods.com.
We now also know the DVD-drive, it's a Phillips/Liteon DG-16D4S with firmware V9504. Most likely it will be the same "mediatek" chipset,
so the MRA way to dump firmware might work.

News-Source (incl. more pics and first New 360 case-mod): solomods.com (via xboxland.net) (thx to OPA for news/links)

I'm very interested to see if they fixed the LiteOn problems...maybe we'll see the *TRULY* unhackable DVD drive? (I think No.)

The X-clamp wasn't the actual issue behind the RROD. Many manufacturers use X clamp style clamps to hold heatsinks in place. look inside some video cards. The problem that caused RROD was lack of proper standoffs holding the motherboard to the case causing the motherboard to flex when heated and cooled.

I had a hunch they were going to combine the cpu and gpu (I think thats what they did since I see one x clamp)

I would love to have one but I have to get rid of some of the older ones I have now, AND I want to see how reliable they are.

Now tell me is it really a "proprietary HDD" or is it a standard 2.5'' drive in a "proprietary Shell" as was the original 360....

seems awfully cost-ineffective to create a new type of non flash-based (magnetic) storage for a machine that doesn't need it.
