If you don't play with it, you will never know. As long you don't break any warranty seal you are good to go, and if it happens again, open RMA ticket with MS and send it in.

More than likely the console is dusty/dirty inside causing the laser to act up. Most common issue is a dirty lens. Considering that the console is new and usually works but sometimes doesn't leads me to believe the laser is dirty. The only way to really clean it/fix the problem is to take it apart.

If you don't want to void your warranty you better get it repaired and done with. It will only keep getting more frequent.
