Transferring Hdd Problem
« on: June 09, 2010, 09:29:00 AM »

Hi everyone... new to the forum. I apologise if this is covered elsewhere, but I couldn't find anything like my problem...

Basically my 20Gb drive is virtually full and I bought a 2nd hand 250Gb drive from ebay... it was a Final Fantasy SpEd version. I swapped the drives and it read perfectly well and said 227Gb free... lovely!

I also bought a Datel Tranfer cable, but it came with Xport which is designed for PC access (not the MS transfer software)... so I started copying files from my 20Gb to the PC and then tried copying them back to the 250Gb drive... ie putting the profiles in the content folder on Partition 3, etc... these did not register when I put the 250Gb drive in the HDD slot on the 360... hmmm, I thought.

So then I tried attaching the 20Gb in the HDD slot and the 250Gb drive to USB (using the tranfer cable)... now I haven't got the MS transfer disc, so I thought I'd just see if I could move a profile from one to the other (I know you can do it with memory units)... it asked me to format the usb device... not thinking twice, I assumed this meant formatting the usb device as an HDD, it then asked me what minimum space I wanted devoted to Xbox, so I selected the maximum and clicked ok... it formatted it, but it has formatted it as a memory unit with 16Gb of space, not a HDD.

Now that I've done this format, the HDD won't detect in the HDD slot on the Xbox, or with the USB cable on the PC with Xport..., so I can't use the Xbox's own formatting capability...

Can someone please tell me I haven't just wrecked a 250Gb drive? Please? uhh.gif
