Dvd Drive - Unique Problem
« on: May 13, 2010, 12:07:00 PM »

Okay, here's my first post.

BACKROUND
I have 2006-09-03 dated xbox 360 with its married Hitachi DVD drive.  The 360 boots up normally with a solid center power light and spinning green perimeter lights.  It takes a little longer to load the dashboard than most other 360's, but it makes it there without any issues.  No errors or red lights ever.  I am NOT banned from Xbox Live.

PROBLEM
The DVD drive will not attempt to eject.  No motor turning or anything (quiet as a dead mouse).  I have tried a million and one trouble shooting methods, which I will describe, and I cannot come up with a reasonable explaination.  Hopefully, this community can help.

TROUBLESHOOTING
1)  Took DVD drive out and connected it to a different 360 that also uses a Hitachi drive.  Viola, the DVD drive opened and closed.  Therefore, issue is not with my Hitachi drive.

2)  I swapped cables from a working 360, and the DVD drive still did nothing.  So I have eliminated the drive and the cables as the problem.

3)  Just for giggles, I manually opened DVD drive, inserted a game, and pressed it closed.  When I booted the console, the center light blinks constantly.  Remember if I don't have a game, the center power light will be solid green.  I'm not sure what this means, but it's weird.

4)  I inspected MB for general soldering or damage issues around the power and SATA terminals for the DVD drive.  Everything appears clean and unaltered.

PLEA FOR HELP
I know the problem has to located somewhere on the MB, but I don't know where to start.  I have never encountered a DVD drive with such a unique problem before.  Any help is appreciated.  Please ask questions if I did not fully explain the issues or trouble shooting methods.

Thanks in advance, Americant
