Help! Error 5
« on: April 18, 2005, 11:37:00 AM »

my xbox is softmodded.  for some really dumb reason i thought if i unlocked my harddrive maybe i could use a cdr. i unlocked it in evo-x and i forgot to llock it.  i was watching an avi in yamp when it froze.  i reset it and got error 5.  apparently the commercial bios is expecting a locked harddrive.  is there anyway to fix this right now?  everything is good and working in the xbox, i just made a stupid mistake.

thanks
seann

Smack it up,
Chip it,
Rub it down,

Oh no. . . . . .

Seriously, chipping it should fix it. . . or at least allow you to fix it. Then you should be able to unchip it once it's locked.

If you know anybody with a solderless chip, you could probably borrow it and use it to relock your HD.  And unlocking does not help with CD reading, thats all in the DVD drive.  To read CDRs, you either need to A) Tweak the laser (risky) B) buy an old Samsung or a new Philips DVD drive or C) Throw your xbox out a window
