But thats where this is weird. I thought that stuff is only for devkits and such yet this is a retail xbox 360 or at least thats what its shell says. Is there anyway of testing it to see if its something other than retail?

There are dev kits that look just like a retail, same with a demo kit.

Well if you get it working it should boot into the xdk dashboard.

I have got it working but it boots into a regular nxe dashboard. is there any possible way that a person who sold it to me just put the nxe dash on a devkit? and is there anyway to get the devkit dash back on it?

Give it 24 hours, for people to read and responds, bumping every 30 minutes isn't going to help any.

Its no problem, when you run a recovery disc it gives you the option to install just the retail dash.
You can grab a recovery disc if you search around but please don't use 9328.9 recovery disc, its been modified to brick a dev kit, anything else is safe to use.

Also if you do want to do a quick test you can always grab some 360 homebrew like xexmenu or freestyle, burn the iso to disc and it should bootup.

If the info says 8955 I'd say you were SOL like any other updated board. I would hack up an old floppy cable and build an LPT reader to connect to those headers and dump the NAND, see what the CB version is. That's actually what my LPT cable is, I just solder 6 pins to the board and plug it in but this already has the pins installed. It's probably the same firmware as any other they just manufactured this one with headers but it never got used but it doesn't hurt to nandpro read the thing.

i tried burning xex menu iso to a disc and play it but it said this disc is dirty or unreadable. Is this just a regular xenon motherboard with some extra headers accidentally placed there or should i try the devkit recovery disc and see if that works? Has anyone had a retail xbox with these extra headers in place? Thanks.

The extra connectors are only on test/demo/dev kits, retail kits simply don't have them.

Yes try and burn a recovery disc.
