Sata Causing Xbox Drive Freeze?
« on: February 22, 2010, 12:53:00 PM »

Greetings all. I'm in the process of modding a friends 360, and going through the motions I got to the point where you plug you're drive up to your computer. Normally, your computer has a short pause then runs normally, as I recognizes the drive. Well, this time when I plug in the sata cable, nothing happens. After doing some experimenting, I've found out that if the sata is not in the drive then the drive functions normally. Powers on and off, tray opens and closes, everything is good. The second you plug the sata cable in however, it stops responding to every input.

I believe the drive is a stock samsung.

Any info about this would be greatly appreciated.

Solved the problem, but I still dont get what happened. fiddled with sata cable in computer, computer shuts off, some how scrambles my start up sequence. I fix that, and then the xbox connected without problem...yeah...

Now I've got to figure out how to get the tray to work right. If it's upside down it sticks, if it's sideways it sticks, if it's right side up it opens.

That'll just be a drive belt issue. The best maneuver would be to get a new belt on ebay, otherwise you could just take the current one out and soak it in boiling water. The latter is only a temporary fix though.
