Watercooled Xbox Has Red Ringed, Please Help!
« on: February 20, 2010, 08:53:00 AM »

Hi all, please go easy with me as this is my first ever post here (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ok, my situation. Last month I made started the major project of watercooling my xbox, it was 5 years old and well out of warranty. I thought this would stopo any future problems. how wrong could I be!

So I have the Lian Li XB01 case and a full custom watercooling setup inside, its virtually silent, a fantastiv machine until the other night and playing COD4 and it froze up. Restarted it and had the three red rings!

I've done the fault code test which says 0102

Anyway, here are pictures of my machine if this helps:

(IMG:http://i64.photobucket.com/albums/h162/dj_andy17uk/P1010330.jpg)

Could really do with some suggestions. Otherwise i'm thinking about selling the whole lot, case, watercooling setup, 2 controllers and everything if anybody is interested?

It would be a shame to undo all your hard work, I would recommend having the GPU "Professionally" Re-soldered to the MB. I did this for a xenon I have and It works like a dream now. The people I used use A higher quality solder as well to reduce the risk of recurring failure  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

If you want that fixed well, you need to get it reflown. An 0102 is a general GPU error, and caused by some of the BGA solder balls under the chip breaking and loosing contact. When that happens, the xbox freezes and then gives you the RROD. A reflow is basically heating that chip to the point that all the solder balls liquify, and then the xbox should behave like its brand new.

There are plenty of people that offer the service. I recommend these guys - http://www.cvx360repair.com/. I've known the owner for a while and he does quality work.

BUMP

Anybody want to make me an offer on this? Just going to buy myself an elite and be done with it.

It will include the Lian Li case, the box and all manuals for the xbox and the original case.
The entire watercooling setup, with a lot of spares, enough tubing and clips to create another setup.
The power brick and DVD drive

Only thing that I don't really want to include is the hard drive as I want to keep my data on there and transfer it to my new console.

So all you would need would be a working mainboard, a little bit of fitting time and your away! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Anybody have any questions, please ask me. I'm in the UK as well, would be prepared to meet any buyer to save postage.

The cause is sometimes the video encoder chip, which does not seem to be water cooled

wow....a watercooled RROD 360...I've seen it all now. Has this console been repaired from the RROD before?

You could just keep all the watercooling stuff and case and put the new elite in there...

Can you still order that XS block?  I always wanted to get the Inno block and do mine but they ended up out of stock and never made any more before I had a chance to order one.

(IMG:http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/2643.jpg)

I figured they would have made a killing off that block for watercooling 360s
