0003 After Reflow W/ Pictures
« on: February 18, 2010, 10:30:00 PM »

I had 2 xbox's that had RROD (0102) had previously been repaired by replacing the x-clamps.

Just got my reflow station "AOYUE 968" and followed this tutorial link except i had to used a sandwich press instead of the griddle and the motherboard is just sitting on 2 peices of wood ontop of the sandwich press. So i did the reflow on both CPU and GPU and now im getting 0003 error and fans don't power on or nothing. When i look at the CPU/GPU chips there are in a U shape.

Also the board didn't move in the process. I'm thinking that the boards must of been flexing a little bit?

Heres some pics from my setup.

I think i understand what happened. The GPU's on both 360's are now bent slightly in "U" shape and the solder balls arn't touch the motherboard. Could this be because the board must of been flexing? or Temp was to hot? didn't exceed 381C.

Wow 381C is WAY too hot! Do your self a favor and buy a IR temp gun or a thermometer with K type thermocouples and read the board temps while re flowing. With my personal 986 I don't go above 309 setting on the machine and that gets my CPU and GPU on top and bottom reading at 231C.

Wont be the same for your machine but it just seems that 381 is too high.

EDIT: if using a tem IR gun always make sure to point at a matte surface, nice models will have a laser light to show where you are aiming. So don't point at the die on the chips

Thanks! Could you point me in the direction of an IR temp gun?

381 is pretty high
i have never gone over 310c

as for the ir temp gun, this is what i use
http://www.toolsforl..._Laser_Temp_Gun

not to expensive, and gets the job done

edit: also to make it a bit easier goto the store and get one of those $25 sunbeam griddles, and some m5 bolts and nuts,

As for the reason you're getting 0003, you probably have some bridged solder balls caused by that warp. They're shorting, which throws the error.

Okay thanks, though i don't live in america so i can't get a griddle cause they don't work in australia due to it being 120v, i need 240v. But i just bought a TAI'AN PUHUI T-8280 Infrared Preheater over at www.ownta.com link so hopefully that'd help alot.

Yeah i can see it the solder balls arn't even touching the mobo cause its bent that much.

Nice tutorial! might give that a go on few e74's i have.

I ended up buying a  "Digital K-type Thermometer DM6801" from http://www.meter-depot.com/ for $29.99 US with free postage.

Its the one used in this tutorial http://forums.cvx360...t...p?f=46&t=65
