Cpu Core Possible Problem
« on: February 20, 2010, 03:40:00 AM »

Hello, some days ago i've fixed my friend xbox360 from rrod problem, it worked for a while but when it happened again my friend decided try fixing it by his own, the problem now is that i think it has scratched just a bit one of the cpu edges(a really small part), i haven't yet tried to fix it back but at first sight i've noticed that small scratch, is it still possible to get that board alive or i'd better to give it to trash?
Thanks

It should probably be fine, but to be sure can you take a picture of it?

This is the picture, i was not able to take a good shot zooming in so i decided to draw a red circle around the corner, the scratch is really small and i have to put the board to the right angle to visualize it.
Thanx for the help!

I don't think that this scratch could cause any issues. Which is the secondary code on your RROD?

it is 0022, any idea? i've already over heated it twice without any good result, i think adding screws to the gpu heatsink it could boot, but i'm not sure at this point....... first time it worked, this is why i've thought it was depending by that scratch.

Thank You!

I would try a standard x-clamp fix to see if that repairs it, and if that works you can try a hybrid simply because it's better for the board and longer lasting. The homemade version is relatively easy to create as well so you don't even need to invest extra money. If that doesn't work, you're going to need a reflow.

The scratch is just on the heat sink die. The die is surrounded by epoxy. The CPU core is inside that. It should be fine.

Did the error code change after the CPU was scratched? If not then that is all the proof you need.

A reflow though should fix it.
