How Long Did Your Xbox Run After Rrod X-clamp Fix?
« on: February 12, 2010, 09:27:00 AM »

Just replaced the x-clamps with the recommended screws/washers and new thermal paste on cpu/gpu...got it running again by leaving the fan off the gpu and overheating for 15 minutes, letting it cool and restarting ...

But wondering how much success people have actually had with this simple fix.  Searching google just seems to turn up that it'll either fail in a week or run for years, but no real personal experience, is it that much of a crapshoot?

And now that I've got it running is there anything I can do to prevent it from happening again?

Originally had error E08/0020 - Bridged solderjoint/Short - CPU/GPU/RAM

Keep that sucker as cool as possible to help prevent future problems.  Look up information on fan shorunds, 12v/9v mods etc.  Lots of information on these forums about all of the cooling mods.  Ultimately nothing will completely prevent it from reoccurring, but these methods will help keep away for longer.  Eventually you might need to do a reflow or reball.

Mine failed in about 4 days, sucks that it had to go like that. Wish i had a heatgun, might pick one up soon, they are a must.

After u fix the rrod issue, always 12v the fans, or else your going to get RROD again soon. Keep the thing as cool as possible so the motherboard doesn't warp.

My personal consoles were both repaired from RROD 0021/22 about a year ago using X-Clamp replacements.

One console (an elite) got screwy graphics then total failure once more about 2 weeks later. Reflowed it with the heatgun method and its been working ever since. The other console never failed again but i did reflow it at the same time for good measure.

Reflow is a must if you want to keep it running for a long time.

As wierd as it is for me to say it but my original xbox 360 that I bought when they first came out runs great and it never had x-clamp mod or anything.

Every single one that I did reflow + x-clamp mod has not given me a single problem ever.

I have a bunch of them that work great, but before I sell them I make sure I reflow it and x-clamp mod. Never had anyone complain.

my xenon RROD on me.. I did the xclamp fix and it lasted for a few months and then started RROD again.
I did the towel trick/bake and it would last a week here and a week there, but then just died all together.

My friend asked me if he could try to fix it with the xecuter rrod fix and i'm like sure whatever.. it won't work.
well to my surprise. it works, I jtag'd it and it's running great now.

so. I have to suggest the xecuter rrod fix kit.
he has now fixed 4 RROD boxes with it and they are all working.

I did this fix about a month and a half ago, and so far so good. One thing that is strange though is when I turn my xbox on after it being off for a while (4+ hrs), it shows the three rings. I'll turn it off, then turn it on again, and it will work fine. When its showing the three rings, Ill check the error code, and I get 0110, which I believe has to do with the memory? Anyways, Its not a big deal, and I could actually see it being very useful when I flash my samsung with LT, as the box is powered on but that is all that happens. I plan on getting a new fan though.

I had a Xenon once that I repaired using the old RBJTech method (including fan shroud divider etc). Worked a treat for 19 months, then needed a shim = 3 months, and finally she died........
