« on: February 09, 2010, 01:13:00 PM »

Ok, a few days ago ive got an Jasper arcade with RROD. It rroed while playing(from the words of owner), then some master did x-clamps removing. No luck. Then heatgun and still nothing. Now that jasper in my hands, ive tryed heatgun for sure - still rrod. After some time in google i have find some information about 0020, something about gpu\cpu\ram power issues. From xenon schematics pdf ive find some spots for checking voltage. No shortcuts( Looks like all clear... and fans is working to. And stable 0020. Now i have no idea what to do. Try to reball gpu with heatgun? Crazy idea....

You have nothing to lose mate. Go for it and reflow the GPU. 9 to 10 of the XBOX issues are related to the GPU.

Stencil??? You are nto going to make full reballing, are you? stencil is the less you need in this case.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif)

We are talking using a heatgun to reflow the GPU's soldering, not to pull off the whole chip and start cleaning up the BGA, applying balls e.t.c.

I read a thread that I found through a quickie google search , that this error may be fixed by simply loosening the screws on the gpu heatsink. apparently you're looking for a 'sweet spot' that will require you to , well, loosen the screws and pray to your god of choice (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

No, my point is rigth - FULL REBALL cos multiple reflows make no effect. Ive already desoldered gpu with heatgun - image IS BAD. Many contacts on mobo is damaged(15-20 in total). Still want to clean it up and see what i can do.

The heatgun may broke your GPU,the balls under the GPU will be stick.

You know.. when you try to pull off the GPU all solders will be liquified, so yes you will see many shorted soldering there. Anyway stensil is the less you will need as I mentioned before. You will need steady hand, solder balls, liquid flux, proper solder iron and much luck using a heatgun to resolder it back properly. Good luck !

If you lifted the pads on the board, as it sounds like you're saying, reballing will be pointless.  A broken pad means there's nothing there for the solder to attach.  Save yourself some frustration - reballing is some serious work.

In any case, if you go ahead with it.. good luck!
