Audio But No Video, What Gives?
« on: November 07, 2009, 09:31:00 PM »

I've got 3 different 'boxes all with this error. They all previously had the clamp fix done to them. One of them was originally to fix this error. One had it, I thought I had it fixed and it's doing it again now. The other, had the fix done for RRoD, but this is the first time it's gotten this happen to it.

These are all clamp fixes I've done, and I've been using the revised method that involves putting the 4MM foam under the board to support it, I'm thinking this could have something to do with it, all of these 'boxes have that in common.

Is there a way to fix this, I've been out of the loop for a little while, quit reading, but now this is racking my brain. One of these belongs to me, the others are friend's. Before I was just replacing the paste and then unplugging the fans to do an overheat, letting it cool off, and it worked for a little while.

Any suggestions, or a fix besides what I've been doing?

dont try to over heat the chips to repair it, does not work long term and may damage further.

the problem you have is definatly related to the gpu, this is quite common, ie audio but no video.

reflow the solder on the gpu and it will fix it.

I don't have access to that kind of equipment, and I'm also well aware that intentional overheating is a bad idea, thanks for trying to be informative though.

I did it anyway, and one works for now. Gonna see how long it lasts, though I know for a fact it won't be long.

Went right back out, as I knew it would.

What is a solution to fix this that will last? A guide or a step by step would be awesome.
