Samsung & Benq Drives "play Dvd" With Real Games
« on: October 23, 2009, 06:45:00 PM »

With either a Samsung or a BenQ drive, original firmware or iXtreme 1.6 firmware, all situations load the disc in the dashboard with the "Play DVD" option.
I've tried searching around the forums here and on Google for a solution, and the results so far were:
A.) Make sure both cables are connected snugly and properly....Check!
B.) Make sure the motherboard key is correct...Check! (I presume it wouldn't even read DVD's if it were wrong anyways)
C.) Clean the laser...Check!
D.) Laser is fried...

Any ideas or solutions/fixes anyone else has had to try?  Or am I just stuck with buying a new laser for it? (Also would be nice to confirm that is even the problem to begin with)

Thanks in advance sad.gif

Are you sure you have the correct motherboard key? Did it play games before you messed around with it or did you buy it from someone? The system will still play dvds without the key.

I got it off ebay, and it started up fine to the dashboard, but being in such an excited hurry as I was, failed to test a game in it.  Though I have flashed the original firmware back to it (I've got it saved away) and no luck playing games still.

If the firmware you have saved is the one that you, yourself, read from the drive since you received it from EBAY, especially without testing it first, then:

A: Yes, it could have came with a drive inside that contains a key which doesn't match the motherboard. This is fixable by performing the Xell hack on your system to retrieve the correct DVD key.

B: Your key is correct, but the laser is shot. Purchasing a new laser from EBAY is cheap and can easily be installed with simple tools. I would try this first as a test to make sure the key is correct. Make sure you remove the anti-static solder ball from the laser before installing.

There is a reason why EBAY is buyer beware. If you need good sources for EBAY purchases for your XBOX 360, PM me and I will give you the name of a few good EBAY stores to buy from.
