Xenon Replacement
« on: October 10, 2009, 09:30:00 AM »

ok so my 360 finally died (RROD) after about 2 years. This was upsetting as Id just purchased ODST. I was mad to say the least. so I registered the repair and sent it back to MS (went to frankfurt as im in the UK) and then they shipped me a replacement with a month of xbox live gold for my trouble. only took a week. went to try to plug in my power brick and it wouldnt fit, I thought this is odd. looked at the connector and there is now a little square plug in the middle preventing the insertion of my 175 watt brick. seems like theyve sent me a xenon MB refurb.  lucky I had an old 203w brick about too and this works great, but I feel a little cheated as I got an older MB compared to the falcon I had.

Has this happened to anyone else? Will the Xexon RROD again as theyre notorious for this or will they have upgraded the heat sink?

grateful for any input for this noob

To be honest no idea!. I remember once, someone, told me that his repaired falcon returned as xenon at the end of the day and when he flashed it that board had the new heatsinks. The point is. That xenon has HDMI? if yes, then it is an OPUS (maybe?). if you don't open the box, you will never know (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

^ Terrible post.

OP, please don't open it.
You are correct, you have been duped and given a Xenon refurb. It won't last and RROD is almost a certainty with Xenon refurbs.

Demand they replace it. Do not tell them you have a 203w brick.
Ring up and say -

"My power supply will not fit this replacement console".

Then you can point the finger and say you believe they haven't provided a suitable replacement. Worst case senario is that you will get a refurb Falcon. Best case senario is that they will send out a new Jasper for the inconvenience they have caused.

defo not going to open it because still under warranty. there is no HDMI port (my original didnt have this) but as I said going by the power connector socket it looks like a Xenon. do you think I should do that? just say my brick doesnt fit and do you think theyll replace it?

thanks for the replies!

Or they are gonna be cheap and send you a refurb power brick... Try to sound very upset and demand to speak to a supervisor and they should give you a replacement.

PS: Which DVD drive did your refurb have? I wonder if they are replacing all of them with LiteOns or still use old drives.

If it was an Opus, your 175w brick would connect to it. So its definitely a Xenon.
You can double check it if you want to be certain -

Xbox 360 model identification

They might try and send you a 203w brick and that certainly would suck. The main thing to keep in mind if they take this approach is to not send the 175w brick back if they demand that also (just to rub salt in the wound).

Do what Evi1d33d suggested and ask to speak to a supervisor. They are the people that can get things done.
