I Got A Free Wireless Racing Wheel W/ No Ac Adapter Or Mount
« on: September 10, 2009, 11:30:00 AM »

I got a free wireless wheel from a friend who works as an intern at a law office. The guy was cleaning out his guest house and donating everything to charity while they could keep anything they wanted.

So he got me the wireless wheel, but what sucks is there was no mount or AC adapter. I was wondering if I could just get an aftermarket adapter at ratshack or some place, but I am having no luck finding any details on google.

I also didn't find the OEM adapter on eBay anywhere.

The adapter is 24v DC, 1.0A, Center Positive. The model number is PSC24W-240, and if ya Google that you'll find it in more than a few places, but you can use any one as long as the specs match and the plug fits.

Exactly what I was looking for; however, people on eBay want $40+ and there really isn't a reputable U.S. retailer via google seach (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

I don't know if you know the tip size but if you do here is an excellent replacement

You will have to wire up a grounded AC cord + the DC cord with the correct tip size

So I called this morning and was glad to hear that the table top replacement and the PSU were free of charge. After about 25 minutes on the line we were finalizing everything and the CSR said you will need to send in your defective units, which he FAILED to mention at anytime during the call!

So I find out that the units cannot just be ordered, they can only be "replaced" by sending in your defective ones. I basically wasted 30 minutes this morning for nothing!

I can solder, but I am not confident enough to wire up an entire PSU...  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

Out of curiosity I plugged in my laptop adapter, and it powered the wheel.

The specs on the adapter are 19v / 3.95A

Would it hurt anything using this adapter? I am not overly concerned about the wheel if it degrades it over time... I mean I don't have one now and it was free :dunno:

EDIT:

this is the exact adapter: http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/adet.to?poid=435063 -- Is the output voltage the most important?

That'll probably be alright to use, I haven't gutted an M$ Wheel yet, so couldn't say if the 24v was really a must or not, but considering what it's used for it shouldn't make much of a difference really. The power adapter is only needed for the force feedback, the rest of the wheel works fine without the adapter, though it does make the wheel kinda crappy when used like that.

The wheel weight is what I was mainly looking for... without it driving is almost impossible IMO
