OK from the lack of responses from my last topic (Drive Replacement) I am assuming I am out of luck with trying to get this old hitachi drive working to replace my fried liteon drive.

If I buy a new samsung drive off ebay or somewhere else (any suggestions - I live in Canada) can I flash the firmware with the jungle flash bin files I have that I made before my liteon drive died?

I stll have the key.bin, Inquiry.bin and Identify.bin files. Can I use these files and the numbers i can read from the laser, bar code and pcb stickers to flash the samsung drive to get it working in my 360?

If it is possible to do this, the numbers on the pcb are very hard to read as they are full of ink from manufacturers signature so if I don't get the numbers right the first time and flash it and it doesn't read original discs or anything else can I try and flash it again until I get it right or is it a one shot deal, o jeez now i'm screwed, type thing?

As long you have the original files, you are fine. You must spoof your new drive to look like a Lite-on. JungleFlasher tutorial, explain it how to do it in detail.

Thanks for the reply MadMaxGR. The drive I am looking at is the SAMSUNG TOSHIBA TS-H943 MS28. Is this an easy drive to work with or is there a better one to use? In other words if I mess up the flash, can I flash it again until I get it right? Or will jungle flash no longer recognize it as a SAMSUNG TOSHIBA TS-H943 MS28 if the firmware is messed up?

I use the MS28 and MS25 quite often and I have had flashed many of those. At the begining I had some issues till I learn how to use my gear and I did many bad flashes. All have been recovered and worked fine when I flashed teh original firmware into them. Then I re-flashed with ixtreme and worked of course. Generally it is easy to use drive and easy to fix and mod. It is 3+ years in the market, so all "gears" are compatible with it and work great. I recommend it even if it has some chippy rubbber belt to open the tray, and you have to change it yearly.

Thanks again MadMaxGR - I'll definately keep that in mind when it's time to buy one. Heck, maybe I should just order one now and avoid future down time.
