Will A Noisy Dvd Drive Fail Sooner Than A Quiet One?
« on: September 08, 2009, 01:42:00 PM »

The one thing that has bugged me since I got my Elite, is the dvd drive. Its not "loud" exactly, but it is noisier than the previous Jasper 360 I had. I install all my games to the HDD anyway, but if the extra noise coming from the drive is a warning sign I would like to exchange it before my 30 days are up. It seems to work fine, although there was a slight hiccup on Arkham but I just wanted to get some other opinions.

To be honest, I have still one xbox that makes loud noise when play dvd games but didn't have any problem yet after 2 years. I only had to clean it once and change its tray belt. If you feel it is a problem then take it back for replacement.

I'm gonna exchange it Friday. I use a Turbo Cooler on the back of my 360, and I can still hear the laser lens flicking back and forth. It sounds like a damn type writer. I've had two instances in Arkham Asylum where the sound skipped, but it was in the same spot everytime, so I think its just that game. Madden 10 really gets the drive click-clacking to a VERY annoying level. Hope the one I get Friday is better. They are all from the same team, date, and lot # though so I'm worried I'll get another loud one.
