Locking Up After X-clamp, Resolder, And Cooling Mod
« on: September 07, 2009, 01:10:00 AM »

So I did the Xclamp fix and I resoldered it. It worked for a little while, then gave me the E74 again.  So I did a solder reflow twice. Its working now for about 5 minutes, then it locks up. Oh I also did the cooling mod with the card board above the GPU and CPU heatsink I'm about ready to throw this thing against the wall, out in the street, or off a Roof! Is there anything else I can do that would fix this?

First, be sure that your mainboard is not bending. Then if the problem persists, do a reflow on the RAM and HANA/ANA chips. I hope it works.

I did that already twice =/. Well not the ram I don't think. Where is the ram located? Do you have a diagram? I reflew the under the GPU and between the cpu ang GPU per the instructions.

As I allready told you, check first if your x-clamp fix make your mainboard bending. the heatsinks must be parallel to the board, not pressing it to bend.  Then heatgun the HANA/ANA chip, it is close to the AV output. If you have E74, the problem is not caused by GPU only. Reflowing the CPU has no point, because it has nothing to do with your error code. The RAM chips are 8 in total, 4 at the bottom of the board and 4 at the top, around the GPU. I hope now you understand how do to it.

Yeah I think I've got a pretty good grasp of the process. The board didn't look bent at all when I looked at it last. Is there a diagram or instructions or anything out there by chance that could show exactly where they are?

Hey man.. its not hard to find. tehre are only 8 exact same chips on the board, and only 4 of them are under the board. They are made by samsung and easy to locate, even a 10 yo kid could find them, that easy it is.

Ok I did it last night. Everything came up ok, lets just hope that it stays that way. I've gotta do something about the cooling though. That stock case fan doesn't blow very much out! Do you have to custom make one or would they come like that already? I read a couple of articles about installing a secondary fan in front of the CPU too but I'm kinda iffy on that.

I also have another 360 that I bought from a buddy that gave the secondary code 0110 which was said on here that its a cold solder of the ram chips so hopefully that will work and stay working once I get that up.

Just reflow the RAM chips to get rid of the 0110. usually it is the two chips under the GPU heatsink.
