I really hope that team Xecuter is working on something, or will be working on something, to do with the new JTAG hack.  They would be a great assest for that.  This drive is just ridiculous. If you are really worried about live, you can probably by a new Arcade Edition for about the same as they will sell this drive for.  I just don't get it  blink.gif

For the right price I don't see why this is such a bad idea, you don't have to open your console which means you still get the 3 year RROD warranty, just for that its worth having.

How do you figure that you don't need to open the console?

The reason your 360 doesn't turn off straight away is because you've not yet figured out how to disable Background Downloads. I'll give you a hint: It's under System Settings/Console Settings/Startup and Shutdown/Background Downloads. Mine shuts off straight away.
Pray tell where ? The NAND is the only IC on the board capable of storing data of any noteworthy size.

I'll solve this nice and easily - I'm going to be dumping my NAND again very soon as I'll be testing the new exploit on an old banned box. I'll run 20 or 30 backups through it (without any dashboard updates) and then dump the NAND again. What's the bet that there are no differences between the two dumps?

You really are rude arent you? I know how to use my xbox thanks.

Mine doesn't do it all the time and it was only a suggestion  rolleyes.gif

I think you need to re-read what this thing is. Then you will know that you will need to take the console apart and read the firmware from the consoles drive to get the drive key before you can flash the external drive to work on the console. You will also need to take the console apart to hook up the SATA cables needed for this to work.

This is just a case without the drive, so my guess it will be priced low. Then you add one XBOX 360 drive, and you got an external one. What troubles me, is how do they get the firmware from the internal drive so you can flash the external one! Anybody can tell?

This would actually be useful in my situation. I have 360's I have to leave open with fans blowing directly onto the GPU heatsink so they doesn't RRoD (again). The case is hideous, but it would allow me to close up the 360's with added cooling inside (think gigantic GPU heatsink).

Now if only they would release separate black, and green models...and not charge an arm and a leg for a generic external SATA case.

I'm guessing you've not had a 360 for that long, otherwise you'd have known the delayed shutdown/background downloads was something added with NXE. I didn't mean to come across as rude, but if you're looking to participate in a discussion which you know nothing about, expect to be shot down in flames!

Which is the nature of background downloads - try turning it off and it'll never do it again.

I really don't see how this External DVD-ROM case would help you to do that! Ok you can put larger heatsink but I don't know any heatsink that would fit on the dimensions. maybe you have something in mind? the only thing you can do , is to put a good fan over the heatsink really.

That's exactly my though. Ditch the dvd from the insides of the 360 and place huge 120mm fans inside it. smile.gif

No, you still need to open the console to connect the side piece that bridges between the two dvd drives.  Still voids your warranty.

This is totally useless, unless you are looking for a nice external dvd drive case...
