At first I thought this was a bit of a gimmick but it's actually pretty good. I like how it clamps onto the inner metal cage and not just the outer plastic fan grill. It should be very secure. A pair of bolt cutters would be the easiest way around this lock so it should deter everyone except those pre-prepared or very determined.

is it just me, but im sure my 360 already has a kensington lock hole on it.

did they not notice this when they came up with the idea
I'm not sure if Microsoft intended that slot to be used with a kensington lock. I think it's main purpose is as a mount for the wireless adapter (from what I've heard). I know some people do use it with a kensington lock and it works fine although it isn't reinforced so not very secure.

how many people here have tools at home maybe in the shed tool box that would get this off
nothing worse then coming home to see somone stole ur console using ur own tools

keep the 30 bucks towards a new 360 or home content insurance

But security devices like this and similar Kensington locks aren't designed to protect against well prepared thieves/burglars. They're designed to discourage and stop the opportunist. They're intended for relatively secure locations like offices and college dorms where there's a lot of foot traffic and the owner can't always keep an eye on property. You don't rely on something like this to secure item's within your home, that's what your door and window locks are for.

What they need is a faceplate that has 3 red lights when its off no body would even touch it.

LMAO, that could work

Great idea, but it blocks a good portion of the ventilation holes...

I too cannot figure out what's the point of this accessory as like others I've been locking my Xbox360 with a Kensington cable for some time.
I'm surprised to hear that it might not be a Kensington lock slot, because it's definitely the right width, length and depth.

Why do people keep making retarded useless shit for 360. I used to work in a bike shop where we sold crappy cheap cables like that, they take all of 3 seconds to hack through with a cheap wire cutter.

true, once you loose your hdd you loose your xbox

Actually, that's not true.  If you "loose" your hdd, you should be able to put it right back on and be good to go.  You're probably screwed if you lose it, though.  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif)

Because they still serve a purpose. Most everyone by now would agree that anything that's of value inside your car should be "out of sight". Does that mean a thief can't break into the car and steal anything? Of course not. But they gotta break in just to find out if you have anything worth stealing, so it helps deter the theft. Now, you're probably thinking "Well, if they broke into my house, what's stopping them from breaking the chain"? Only the chain, is. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Think about it - breaking into a home is actually pretty easy to do without tools; just break a window and climb in. Usually if someone breaks in, they're prepared to do a "grab n' go" because alarms will trip and police will be on their way. If there's a chain they gotta get past, it probably won't be one of the things they grab while going.

Did you even look at the picture?   It blocks maybe 6 of them.

If they're real thiefs rather than thugs or lowlifes, they'll have a good wirecutter or such that can cut the cable with minimal effort.
So it's only a deterrent, won't stop a prepared burglar, only thugs, lowlifes and selfish jerks.
But since the mechanism itself connects to the metal insides, I bet that if you were to get your own quality cable (read: stronger), it'd probably work better than most kensington locks (and kensington lock holes on laptops or such)

And in the center as well, so actually restricting about 2 airflow holes, if that.

If they were real thieves they wouldn't be robbing dorms, and would just smash the thing for the aggravation.

what about adding an intelligent circuit in conjunction with the power supply, which will alarm when the theft pull out the power supply or turn off the main without a security code?
