So back in the day a friend of mine buys a (quite expensive) xbox 360 elite. It goes for about 4 months and dies - I'm pretty sure with an E74 error. Meanwhile he's had it about a month when I get an arcade pack (20gb) so I can soft mod it with iextreme 1.5. A few weeks ago he finally gives up on his xbox and leaves it to me. He put in a warranty claim straight away but is a bit lazy and never got round to posting it off. Now thinking warrenty has expired he didn't care.
So now I have my good, working, modded white xbox and a semi broken, still sealed black xbox (unit only - no cables or hdd). I'm wondering what to do with it. Currently I'm at
a ) Break the seal (*makes seal noise), mod it, try to fix error and keep it incase mine breaks.
b ) Attempt to warrenty (console is still sealed). Don't know if I will have problems as my friend has already put in a warranty claim. I'm sure back in the day even he had trouble convincing them he had bought it. Then probably sell it (and try to convince someone else that I didn't steal it).
c ) Linuxify it. The only problem is that 1) this would use / destroy my only xbox hdd and 2) I have enough x86 hardware already for this sort of thing.
d ) Gut the console and use it for something else eg install a micro atx board, create a tiny server.
e ) Gut it and use the console as a cave for my fish tank (no. I'm serious. but would the plastic leach toxins into the tank.
I'm also not even really sure if after 8 months it is going to error again at all. I'm running circles in army of two at the moment to try to heat up the chips, but has been running about half an hour without dying. It's pretty fridgid where I live at the moment - it may be until summer before it dies again anyway.
So my question is what do you the populace think I should do with it?
