Did you replace the clamps with screws?  If so, did you use the nylon washer on the inside or the metal?  Also, it's important after the baking to re tighten and let set before firing it back up.

The tutorial I used recommended only having the xbox on for 2 minutes MAX while it was flashing the two red lights.  After that let it cool slightly(but not all the way) and then retighten those screws.

Might try that again.

Can you tell us the secondary code? It might not be the GPU.

My guess it is the two chips under the heatsink , next to the GPU that cause the error. You need to cool them down somehow. Some use rubber trick, other use arctic silver combined with 2 washers (side by side), but I prefer the normal proffessional way using thermal pad.

using thermal pads you manage to have two positive things. First the chips will get cooler faster pushing the heat faster and more balanced to the heatsink and second, helps to balance the x-clamp force at the area.

Of course you might need to heatgun the chips first before you do the fix.

Let me know what happened

First, it is good to cover anything sensitive with 3-4 layers of aluminium foil, just in case something goes wrong around the chips.
Second, you need something solid metallic to use as slim heatsink, and the pennies are not the ones who can deliver this.

Thermal pads there are on Ebay and some retail shops who sell stuff for overclockers etc. famous ones are Akaza and Thermaltake brands. on eBay you will find some bulk pads from HK.

Just curious i done the xclamp fix and i found another website that says to use a credit card to but between the heat sinks and the cpu and gpu. What is the purpose of this do i need to do it to mine? Also Should i put the thermal pads on the ram between the heatsink or the bottom of the board?

Sorry for the double post but i forgot to ask is the uniclamp any better than just taking the xclamps off and using bolts and washers? I dont really want to try it because i will have to have a new metal casing because mine hase holes for the bolt heads drilled in it. What would be best should i leave it the way it is?

Personally I don't do the credit card trick, I prefer to use thermal pad on the RAM chips, that do the same trick but with better perfomance. The idea is that either the credit card trick or the thermal pads on the RAm chips are used to ballance the pressure from the x-clamp fix. But, if you not tighten too much the screws on the GPU heatsink and be sure your heatsink is parallel to the mainboard, not bending it, and still touching your GPU, then no credit card or thermal pads on RAM chips are needed really. I just use them to avoid E74 or freezing issues for the future.

Now, the thermal pads that come with the xbox are placed under the board (there are 4 memory chips there) and should remain as they are. Don't remove them! They really help. Then I suggest to use 2 more under the GPU heatsink's memory chips.

No matter what x-clamp fix u did (drilling holes or not) the above must be done and avoid any bending of the board. Also drilling holes might code another problems but it is not proved yet. They say that in time because the bolts are on the air, don't provide support to the mainboard in the middle as they were supposed to (the original x-clamps). That puts lot of pressure when the system gets hot and some say the mainboard "cracks" under pressure, and you get RROD once more.

I find it logical so I use bolts (screws) that is exact the height I need (like original x-clamps) and I don't have to drill the case. So far I didn;t see any kit using my bolts, because maybe they are more expensive than the ones they sell smile.gif

Ok there is no thermal pads on my memory boards so do i need to add some thermal pads to them as well as the ram could that possibly be the problem is that mine does'nt have the thermal pads on the memory? also do you put thermal pads on just the two ram under the heat sink.

I put thermal pads between the GPU heatsink and those 2 memories sitting there, I use 2mm thick thermal pads. Under the board, at the 4 memory chips there, I use the original MS pads.
