I recently had one of my 3rod repaired 360 come back to me, as the guy was saying after ~20-30mins of play, the xbox would freeze, then upon turning off, and back on it would give the 2 red lights overheating...
I had a look at this myself...30mins on the dash all ok, started up forza, was about to start a race, and it froze, turn off/back on, and 2 red lights, turn off again, back on 3rod!
Anyway, i immediately thought this may have something to do with the fan, when i turned the console on, i couldnt fell much air blowing through the GPU fan, and quite a bit through the CPU (about 10x as much!)....
I progress....i immediately opened the 360 up, took the fan out, left it plugged in, and as i thought, the GPU fan was running much slower than the CPU one,
So i swapped the fan out for another, this made things interesting, now the GPU fan runs as fast as the CPU one did on my test above, and now the CPU fan runs slower (so things have reversed - same model of fans btw)....
From the looks of things my fan header is not outputting enough voltage to one of the fans at any given time, thus why the reason for overheating?
Should both fans be running equal voltage all the time, or should one always be faster than the other?....i would have thought that the GPU fan wouldve sped up once the GPU itself was getting hot, though this didnt happen....
Anty thoughts?....i was just thinking of 12v modding the GPU fan and leaving it at that.
