To answer the questions in order..

No
Yes, if it was hit by lightning
Depends on the warranty status or if ya feel like spending $75 or so on the Wireless adapter.

It depends on which Ethernet chip is in your 360, it could be the ICS, or the BCM. The ICS chip ya can find new, if ya hunt for it, but the BCM one you'll have to get from another 360 motherboard.

While the ICS can be replaced with a soldering iron, the BCM must have a hot air setup to be replaced, and the ICS really should as well, it's not exactly an iron friendly kind of chip, unless you're really good with the iron.

I've replace the ICS before on a few boards (with hot air) and that fixed the NIC right up, never had one with a BCM to replace though.

While the motherboard is setup to use either chip (ICS or BCM) ya can't just straight swap them, the support components, Capacitors and Resistors around there, are in different places depending on which Ethernet chip is used, so swapping from a BCM to an ICS or vice-versa while doable, is way more hassle than it's worth.

It's right behind the Ethernet jack and has the part number on it, the board designation is U1B1 for the BCM or U1B2 for the ICS.

You can make it out thru the side of the 360 if ya don't want to tear it apart just yet.

What it'll cost ya depends on where ya can find it, though the shipping on the thing is gonna most likely be 10 times what the part costs ya. I honestly can't remember where I found the ICS chips now, it's been awhile and I know it took me awhile to find a place that had them, hit me up in a PM if ya end up needing one of those.

It's common if there was a lightning storm or one was close by and it stopped working after that, I haven't heard of any that just up and quit working, though I'm sure there are some. For the lightning damaged ones replacing the Ethernet chip fixed them right up.

As far as other issues go, ya have the Ethernet cable, which should have been checked at least twice already as well as what it's plugged into, the Ethernet jack as it has a transformer built into it (never seen one of these that were bad though) and then the Southbridge, which there's no point in even trying to replace and I'd only suspect it if replacing the Ethernet chip did nothing and the cable and modem/router were confirmed working.

If someone was messing around in there and that's how it died then it could be any number of things.
