How have they been "blocking" fan mods? I mean it's not like they ban you or anything.

Even though the HDD is removable by a simple push of a button, you cannot install your own (even if you are willing to void the warranty and unscrew the HDD case), you have to purchase their expensive ass hardware.  You cannot use a memory stick or a USB stick to copy your save games, you have to use their expensive ass hardware.  You cannot copy your own video files to the HDD nor can you play them from a USB stick, you are suppose to pay for the videos (I know you can play them from the network but that idea doesn't work for everyone).  To the best of my knowledge the PS3 douse all three of these.

It also pisses me off to no end that I can't copy a game to the HDD and then take it upstairs (DVD and all) and can't play it from the HDD on my 360 there.  I can play my save games, I can play my videos, but I have to re-copy the game to the HDD?

i doubt you can install games onto it without hacking the dashboard.
i say this because when you press 'Y' on the disc, you get the option to 'Install to Hard Drive' - so you cant choose where to install a game, it goes directly to the HDD attached.

could you please explain what you could hotswap?
& what a USB loader would do?
custom dashboard? that would be sweet (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

You can actually play videos from a USB disk on the 360.  I do it with divx files all the time, on my own console as well as my friends'.  They added this I think around the NXE release or a little bit before.  Now if only I could play back mkv files

wow, this is huge news! even if this was discovered by a for profit company which won't be sharing their secrets with us, we will at least know that it is possible, and hopefully be able to do this with our own usb devices in the future.

this could actually be very useful as is, since it allows us to store dlc on the card. this will let me keep my rock band dlc on a card that i can take to a friends house, and then plug into a system so we can use my friend's data from his harddrive, and my data from my memory card. this is something that isn't possible with the tiny 512meg cards

i think hotknife thought you literally meant fan mods, such as doing the 12v fan mod. i know thats what I personally thought when i read your first comment.

It can't work as a HDD replacement, in that it could literally handle the functions of the HDD.

As far as the 360 is concerned, this is nothing but a memory card.

Anything you can do with an official memory card you can do with this, nothing more (aside from the fact that it uses MicroSD cards).

no. its still a memory card, and as such, the same restrictions about what it can and can't do apply. just think of it as an oversized memory card

What you don tunderstand is that they did not break the live/market place encryption... they got the code to make thier own memory cards to work as memory cards.

Your not gonna be able to download a crap load of arcade ganes, take them and make them work without paying fo rhtem and put itback in.

I'd buy this. It's a pain if all of your DLC is on your hard drive and you want to play on a friend's 360. Now you can just copy it to the memory card and use your DLC and their HDD. Why is the limit 16gb though. If you have a 4gb card + a 16gb microSd wouldn't that be 20gb?

I'm pretty sure the 2/4GB  is an included MicroSD card, not built in memory.
