Help With Xclamp Fixed E74 (1022) 360
« on: April 05, 2009, 12:31:00 PM »

Hi there,
I recently bought a 360 with E74 off someone, and did the Xclamp fix. Stupidly, I didn't check the secondary error code, but did the Xclamp fix anyway.
I took it all apart, took the heatsink out and cleaned the paste off (but not off the GPU), then applies new thermal paste, but it back on, but the screws in with all the required washers and tightened them a lot. I then baked it (had it on without fans) until 2 red lights, then put it back together. It worked for about a week, then got E74 again, having not really noticed any graphical errors. Now I have checked the error code, and it is 1022.
What is my best course of action now? I have searched a lot but most things I found are old and I was wondering if there was anymore information. My current plan is to take the heatsink off again, clean both it and the GPU, apply new thermal paste, screw it back in, heatgun the underside of the ANA chip and GPU (which I didn't do before) and let it cool.
Is there anything better I can try?
Thanks.

Heatgunning the Hana/Ana chip is your best bet, and the lines between the GPU and the Ana chip.

well first of all..
e74 can be caused by BAD bga connection on the GPU leading to hana/ana
hence re flow GPU and HANA  (both)just to be sure, they to keep the fix permanent do the x-clamp (hybird)...

i fixed an e74 the other day with the above precedure still going strong after about 16hours of halo3...

Before you risk using a heat gun why don't you actually clean off ALL the thermal paste from the heat sink and the cpu/gpu using arctic remover or goo gone (make sure to scrub off the goo gone after it's clean). Then put it back together. You should be good.
