OK, looks like the Xbox is fine!

I tried the standard AV cable (without connecting it to the amp or TV) and the 360 booted up correctly. I then tried a different HDMI port on the amp and powered it up again, and the 360 came up!

I then plugged the HDMI cable back into the original location, while the 360 was still on and it displayed. Finally I switched the 360 off, and switched it back on (it was now in the same set up as the start, when it wasn't working) and it booted up fine! WTF?!

Anyways, I hope this helps anyone else who may have this issue one day.

has this problem ever been fixed. i have come across a 360 with the same exact symptoms
