Xbox 360 Wireless Transmission Standard And Decoding
« on: February 18, 2009, 11:52:00 PM »

I'm a computer science student, but also an entrepreneur. I want to provide software that integrates a common 3rd party device with the xbox 360, so that if a person didn't want to buy a new controller, they could just use their device to play. The device is equipped with a bluetooth transceiver.

I don't know which frequencies the xbox 360 uses to transmit its signal. I hear it's bluetooth at around 2.4 GHz, but I haven't confirmed it.

I also heard, through searching forums for a couple hours, that there is a firmware lockout keeping 3rd party controllers from handshaking with the xbox.

Can anyone list for me the steps I'd need to take to discover the frequency, the protocol(s) used, and how I might go about decoding the signal?

If you're an expert with networking, please estimate how much time you think this would take, if it is even possible at all?

Are you thinking of the PS3? And I don't think it's bluetooth. I know they lock 3rd party on PS3 but I have seen 3rd Party wireless 360 controllers.
