Got an odd problem with my machine that I did the xclamp fix on today. I used the team xectuter pro kit and everything went ok. I got green lights when I started the machine up - but initially the fans were racing after a few minutes.
I took it apart while the machine was still hot and was able to just nip the screws up a little more, no doubt due to them expanding with the heat.
I've put it back together again and it seems to be ok, but the fans definitely sound different now. They seem to speed up and slow down (not by very much) but before the fix they seemed constant - and fairly quiet.
I'm puzzled because surely the green lights means that the heatsinks are doing their job of pushing down the gpu and cpu to the board again, so I'm not sure why the fans seem louder than before as the heatsinks must be making good contact. The only thing different, is that I had the old style heatsink on my GPU, but have swapped it out for one of the ones with the extension that came in later models. It was cleaned well and had no marks on it etc.
As I say it isn't too bad, and they certainly aren't racing away. But I'm concerned that it means my machine is getting hotter than it was before. And of course, the heat has already caused me a RROD. Any advice? Cheers.
