Installing A New Dvd Drive In 360
« on: January 14, 2009, 04:11:00 AM »

OK, this might be a dumb question, but...

First off...

I have 2 360's...

One of which, the video gets "scrunched up". Kind of like the left and right sides of the screen are being "pushed" twards the center. And really gets kind of hard to play COD online with your screen all scrunched.

The OTHER I got from someone on Craigslist thats modded to play backup games. Well, I figured I'd switch the DVD Drives and put the NON modded DVD drive in the 360 that DOESNT have the messed up video. So I dont get banned.

Is there an easy way to do this?

I read about swapping the keys or something like that.

Is there a tut on this?

OK, this might be a dumb question, but...

My DVD drive in one of my 360's went out. So I went through my spare parts and I have about 3. But none of them seem to work.

It brings me to the screen that says something like "insert a disc into the console" or something like that.

I KNOW the drive is NOT bad, so WTH. Why cant I use it?

Each motherboard has a unique code that the code in the disk drive must match up. So your putting a disk drive from a different console with a different code, so it doesn't work. You need to hood your faulty disk drive up to your computer and try and get the key off it.
What is the problem with the drive?

OK, I've "edited" the original post.

So maybe it'll be a bit easier to understand.

The one drive is modded and I dont want to use that one to play online. As ill get banned.

The other has weird video.

So I want to put the NON modded drive in the 360 that has good video..

If that makes sense.

The model number on the drivers are the same.

The video I fiured out, someone changed the setting to "Widescreen". So that part is good, but I'm getting these errors after playing a map on COD, a message comes up saying that the disc is unreadable.

and doesnt give me my exp...

ughhh

if it is giving dirty disk errors, it could be as simple as swapping the laser out. Try POT tweaking it, if that fixes it then I would swap the laser out (they are dirt cheap)

If you want to switch the drives around and they are the same verson.
Then swap out the pc boards on the dvd drives themselves.
And if your having dirty disc error look up the tutorial on samsung pot tweaking.

Hey I'm looking to do the same thing.  I want to have a spare dvd drive (same model) that I use to play back ups.  Can't I just use the drive key from the original dvd drive and then swap dvd drives when I want to play my back ups. I know its posible to replace the original drive as long as you have a back up of the FW and key.
