« on: January 01, 2009, 06:59:00 PM »

I posted earlier that i thought my cd drive wasnt working but i don think thats the case now. The xbox will work for a couple mins then i get two red lights on the left hand side. When i pull the code it says  0013 which ram over heated but I have the case completely off the xbox and its cool in my house right now. I did the x clamp fix a few months ago and had been fine ever since till now

I pulled the mother board out out of the case, and noticed one of them lil foam pads are missing. Could this have anything to do with it. not sure where it even is so what could i do to replace it?

it might you dont want the chip to hit the metal shielding or it can cause a jump or short circuit but for the mobo warping you have to sand down the mobo mounts and tighten each exact screw the same about 6/12 to 7/12 turns each screw

this might help

yes this is most likely the cause of the problem!  try replacing something here (preferably that lil foam pad)

@ The Evolution - not here to argue with you evo... though you were a bit harsh finishing all posts "research before posting" etc.....  they sometimes do. this one did or he wouldnt know the error code. he wanted some verification not just the possible solution.

ok back on topic im not really sure what you can put there yourself? never lost one of these before. :S  you can order the xecuter RROD kit and it comes with 4 of those pads (basically the same just stiffer)

Ok ive tried to do everything i can to match that website. Even the credit card around the chips and a washer on the rams, and i also put a lil pad under the ram that had fell off at some point with no luck. I dont think the system itself is actually over heating because the red lights come on in less than two minutes after a cold start. nothing feels warm let alone hot.

ok what  pics would ya wanna see? just as a update again i took the credit card strips back off and it worked again for about a hour before shutting down. So right now i have some foam in the bottom of the tray under the mother board, grinded the two raised areas down to the size, of three washers, my screws only go through the motherboard and not the case like the video link you gave me said but i had done the xclamp fix from another video a while back. i also put a washer on top the two ram chips under the heat sink. Ive fixed five or six xboxes that had the three rings for friends and all of them worked and still do but this one of mine is def something extra or different goin on.

And? Your point is?

Sand those cards down, their a bit too thick probably. Get your secondary error code if you can. It might tell you whats overheating (cpu, gpu, ram)

You cant permantly fix a xbox once it gets RROD or 2 lights

and

He said he did other stuff besides the credit card so it cant have to do anything with that its his board he should get it reballed if worse comes to worse

My secondary code was 0013 which is the ram. I understand what you mean about never actually fixing the problem but this isnt even playable most of the time it wont last two mins before it goes out i only got some time out of it when i first took the plastic cards off. i switched the foam pad from one of the ones not under the heat sink to the one that was missing a pad that under the heat sink. then i  put a plain foam pad under the uncovered one but that didnt seem to help either. whats reballed? (rebuilt) or (re-solidered)?

Ok so i get a heat gun from a friend and do everything i can to do this the right way with some plastic wrap and foil as well. Put the xbox back together, turn the power on and it works! Play for like a hour and a half before i got up for a min. When i came back i had three red lights! Secondary code comes up as 0003. Something to do with not getting enough power? Any suggestions on where to go from here? Getting frustrated with the whole mess.
