Thanks to all you Guy`s involved in this mod.
My son`s exbox craped out yesterday with the 3RROD   ohmy.gif  So thought I would give this a go , after a few hrs of following the advanced tut  blink.gif  I fired her up and still the 3RROD  grr.gif  Small adjustments to all 8 screws (tightened them up) powered her off then on and BINGO!!  rolleyes.gif  THUNDERBIRDS are go.

I havent had time to test her fully , but my son will do this .

Thanks again Guy`s for all your input and great work on this tut.   smile.gif

1 question thou, if you could be so kind as to help.

I have an elite EX intercooler fan, never used (got it from curry`s for 99p   tongue.gif ) but never used this before.
Now that the xbox has crapped out with the 3RROD and now been fixed via this Awsome tut,I am inclined to start using this (nothing to lose now I feel) ,What do you think?  yes it will help or not to bother, I have done nothing more to the exbox other than fix the RROD so your input would be advantagous.

Thanks again .

I was at Walmart and seen a pack of craft foam that had had adhesive on the back.  It was 2mm thick.  Just wondering if the adhesive on the back would be good enough to stick the two pieces together.

That the gear I used her in the UK and it works wellI belive (as I have fixed the 3rrod) Fingers crossed

Would 20mm machine head screws work or are they too long? Just that I've got sh1t loads of these....

I would say yes but on the largest heasink side you will have to do a small fin mod where each of the 4 screws go ,which is pretty simple to do.

My son`s very happy now and hopefully should last to XMASS next year  biggrin.gif  and he should be able to play the games we got him this Crimbo and re-sub to his 12+1 live subscription on xmass day.

I havent had time to test her fully , no probs so far and no freezing  but am sure  my son will take her for a very long test drive real soon.

Thanks again Guy`s for all your input and great work on this tut.   smile.gif

Ye I spoke to humboldt about the adhesive craft foam yesterday as well and he said it is okay as he has used it as well, so just get it if you can will be easier to glue it together then...

And the perfect size for the screws is 16mm then you dont have to modify the heatsinks at all.

I am glad that it worked for you.

Cheers,
Wilhelm

The intercooler is the very latest from nyko for the black elite cost around £16.99 here in the uk
but I got it for 99p at currys( misprice lol) and Have never used it because of all the horror stories concerning them in the past.
I think I will hold back on using this now ,as I still myself don`t trust them.

increasing the stock fan voltage is much more effective than trying to force more air through it with an intercooler.

Yes it works on all boards.  If you have a unit made after 2007, it might not need to be sanded as Microsoft started fixing it themselves.  The older ones that need sanding are rounded on the top and the newer ones are flat like in the pic below.  Just do what the tutorial says and check your case with 1mm thick flat washers.

Thanks for posting that pic.  My june 07 elite needed to be sanded down and looking at the pic, yeah, it's a noticeable difference.

Thanks for the info humboldt111502. But I have managed to convince the shop to repair it for free. But even so, I am still going to buy a kit, cos deep down inside I know that the repair is not gonna last long enough. And I really wish Wilhelm would reply to my pm.
