Probably not the place to ask but has anyone got any spare xclamps? I always threw mine away sad.gif

I did do a BST post but thought people here would be more likely to help.

Thanks.

20mm screws would be okay Only on the CPU side.  On the GPU side they would be too long and deform the heatsink.   16mm is about as long as u can use on the GPU with our setup.

I got about 30 or so x-clamps as well if you need any let me know tongue.gif

I also just wanted to add that I found a way to rip youtube off so that the videos are high quality and automatically played or not(when you access the tutorial the second time)

The links for high quality(even higher than youtube, 3000Kbit/s) and low(400kbit/s, for 56k etc) are still hosted on the server though.
Leave some nice comments and rate the video if you like smile.gif ->

Cheers,
Wilhelm

Spare x-clamps?  Damn, must have 100-150-200?  lol.  Done a lot RROD fixes and always take off the xclamp and replace with M5 bolts.  They made good little ninja stars to throw at people being a pain in the ass to me when I'm working too.

This tutorial seems a little hard for a noob like me.

But before that I'd like to share some info regarding my xbox. I bought this around january or february of this year ( don't remember the exact date), from a shop in Bangkok, when I was on a trip there. The console was modified to play backup games, which was the main reason why I bought it in the first place. Cost me about $600 bucks for everything including an extra joypad, wireless unit and some backup games. I used the consol in bangkok for about a week and it had no problems. Once i returned back to my country ( Maldives ), I played for about a month, finishing Timshift and Gears of War, and also playing a little Guitar Hero in between. So far no problems, and I didn't even know a problem like this existed. After that I gave the console to my bro, who played GOW as well. But he mostly uses the console to show Kiddy movies to his 1 year old son. And he was using it a lot for doing this. And about 4 months after he took it, the dreaded RROD happened. We then gave it an electrical guy who searched the web and managed to open the console, but he also did not have any clue as to what to do. So it stayed like that until I was able to send it to bangkok for repair. I didn't go there personally but a friend of mine did. The shop repaired it on the 24th of NOV. I got it about a week ago. And it was working fine. I was able to install NXE, and played just a little. Nothing major, cos I am playing Resistance 2 on the PS3. About 2 days ago I burned a downloaded TOO HUMAN to DVD, put it in the console and tried to load it. The console froze. I turned it of and when it rebooted it showed the RROD. I was so fucked up. cos I had spend $60 to get it repaired from Bangkok, and this shit has to happen. I tried doing the towel trick, it worked for a day and the damned thing happened again.

I now want to repair this on my own with a little help from some electrical and hardware experts. But I don't feel like drilling holes in chassis, or sand it either. My question for the experts here is, will it work if use screws only on the motherboard, and if so just how many months do you think it will last. That method seems really easy to accomplish. My other question is do u think its possible for the repair kit to be shipped to where I live ( Republic of Maldives ), ie if I don't find the stuff I want locally.

Any help would be very greatly appreciated.

Really really ashamed and sorry about the long info. Wont let that happen again.

Well the question really is, how long do you think the xbox will last if i only use screws on the motherboard. No drilling or sanding.

For now i have used some 1mm stiff art card.

Cut one piece 70mm x 35mm and folded it in half, so it's 2mm thick, and 35mm by 35mm. Did two of these, and joined them together.

The next piece 60mm x 30mm, folded again, did another, joined together.

Because of the fold in each piece, which it doesn't want to do, it pushes up, pretty similar to the force i would imagine of an xclamp.

Seems to be working so far smile.gif

rofl xclamps made out of card? i don't think so.

if you read the tutorial you will realize what the idea is behind re-using the xclamps.
card will not provide enough force to the bottom of the gpu. think more along the lines of steel.

people are selling x-clamps on ebay as well
