Sounds pointless, I'd rather trust the TV's components to do the conversion. I know trapping the signal earlier on can preserve quality, but it can't make that much of a difference when the signal is analog in the first place. Besides, while most games display at 720p and most HD sets out there are at 720p, the 360 component cable is perfectly capable of carrying such a signal faithfully. I've got both the HDMI and component cables, and they look the same, I've tried it out on at least 6 games and couldn't see any difference on a 120Hz 50" 1080p LCD w/15:000:1 contrast ratio. I have a few HDMI devices and have no problems keeping the 360 on component to free up a needed port if it became necessary.
