New Xbox 360 Controller Hands On
« Reply #15 on: September 16, 2008, 11:40:00 AM »

Did I miss something?  Is the release 360 D-Pad better than the newer ones?  I find I use the D-Pad for games like Soul caliber 4 because it's more accurate than the analog stick.  Do I have the special, limited edition, 1 in 1,000,000 functional (3 of them in fact) controller or am I just a better gamer than most.  There ain't to way its the second option.

the wrighter is talking about the console (and more specifically the RROD)... not the controller

Ah yes - I misread the quote - thanks for the clarification smile.gif It makes much more sense now!

Aghm... I was under the impression that Microsoft was limited in their design options due to patent issues...

Somehow I doubt that applies to the d-pad considering they all work exactly the same way. The only real difference is the proportions of thing.

That would be like saying GM can't make wheels bigger than 17" because Ford has a patent on 18" wheels.  laugh.gif

unless you've a link to some info I'm not aware of?

The dpad sucks a big one. I was getting ready to buy a ps3 just to play mortal kombat and street fighter. A friend of mine that went to the gamestop conference (yes I know we all hate gamestop please don't turn this into thread about that) said that they got to preview the new dpad controller and it felt good. O and it's supposed to be red for the U.S. not green. I think I'd rather have green but whatever as long as its fixed.

"inputting text with the on-screen keyboard is like driving one of those carnival bicycles where the handlebars and front wheel turn in different directions"

I don't know about them, but everyone says I'm a beast at entering text on emulated keyboards.  No complaints here.

if ur that picky to input text, go get a $5 usb keyboard and plug it into that nice thing called USB PORT in the back, and type away... that fixes your *inputting text* by 250% (of course im being a dick dont need to post replies about it)

Then just make four buttons, it would work better than the current dpad and I can't see that there would be a patent issue, otherwise the existing buttons would be toast.

Screw it, I'm going to open mine up and just fit four buttons...

Really, all four?

They never go sideways instead of up?

I haven't found a single one yet that doesn't display annoyingly bad random movement, I'm surprised that you could have four that are perfect.

Go into a keyboard entry screen and try typing in a full sentence, say like "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party" and let us know if it doesn't miss a beat. I'd be surprised and would love to get a look at your controller to see why yours are so good.
In fact, I'd love to buy one off you!
